1978 Honda 400 Hawk

This is totally not a mini trail related thread, but thought there might be some opinions on this.

I have a line on a very nice 1978 Honda 400 Hawk (5 speed, not Hondamatic). This bike seems very clean with 22K miles and runs great. Just needs soem cleanup. The bike has actually been in storage for 15 years.

The seller is asking $600. Does this seem like a fair price? Seems actually kind of low to me.

Which flavor is it? There were three. The Hawk l has spoke wheels and came in Red or Black. The Hawk ll has ComStar wheels and came in Red or Candy Blue. Then the Hondamatic with ComStar wheels and came in Red or Candy Blue. I think the Hawk l in Black is just bit&$#@. Great price for the mileage. Four years ago I was looking for one but the lower mileage bikes were on the high side to me, around $1300 -$1700. Never could find a Hawk l in black so I ended up with a 76 CB360T with 5800 miles on it for $800.00.

It is a red Hawk II with the ComStar wheels. The bike has little if any rust but does need to be polished up. Do you know of any place to download a service and/or owners manual?

Sounds like a decent buy to me...provided it is in decent condition. I have a one owner '78 in candy blue with just 5K on the clock. It is about 99% perfect. I probably wouldn't take less than 1500 for it..

My 78 CB400 Hondamatic runs great . The auto's weren't super fast . Fun to putt on .
