New b-70HKO

First thing, this site is my favorite for Honda info site.

Bought my first 1970-71 HKO from a friend that had rebuilt a 50 and 70 a couple years ago. As I wrench into it, I'm discovering more repair issues (not surprising, now that I've read every thread on this site). My goal for this project is to repair for son (me too) to ride. Not worried to much about paint condition. However; I would like to get it as close to origonal looking as possible.

Brief tear down synopsis as follows.

Removed engine.

Simple green frame. Frame is basically good condition. Bottom of crankcase protector needs welding to frame holder. Chrome needs some steel wool and polish (will look good as new). Shock caps need work, both have taken a beating. Front fork has been welded below lower frame connection and will need some paint. Wheels and brakes in great shape. All cables, brake switch need replacement, along with throttle control, headlight and tail lens. I don't think a lot of dollars will be required to get frame shape.

Simple green engine. Engine will not turn. Broken left side crank case cover. Kick start spine my need replacement?? End grooves are slightly stripped. Piston ceazed due to rust in cylinder. Lower portion of cylinder has some scoreing but cleaned up pretty good with a brake honer. Lower portion of piston scored. Oil and compression rings look fine. I may just reinstall these. Break engine down futher (right side crank cover) to inspect sludge factor, clean oil filter and inspect and clean oil pump. Inside of case has no sludge (awsome) just some lite tarnish. Oil filter clean. Attempt to remove screws that hold clutch face plate to get to oil pump, can not free them. Engine case was so clean I'm thinking don't go any further. Sprayed the inside of crank case with brake cleaner to remove tarnish. Heard part fall on the floor. Oh no. One tooth of the third gear counter shaft broken. Bummer, I was hoping it just needed engine fix. Good news, buddy I bought bike from stops by to give me carb and engine gasket kit he found in workshop. Bad news, wife starting to get pissed at me for time spent on this, but I can't stop, too much fun.

Pleae let me know the best way to fix transmission gear issue. I recall reading that tranny parts are no longer made or available from Honda will I need to e-bay this part?

Have pictures but need to reduce size for site to accept. Not sure how to do this.

Will keep progress posted.

Thanks
