ok so :scooter:its not a honda, but while I'm fiddling and fixing up my ct70s I couldnt help but bick up a pristine 85 suzuki fa50.....unlike the lovable minitrails it seems to have no faithful followers that I can find...any info on modding hi-performance parts etc..or just plain ol info/fan sites?

THE SUZUKI FA50 WAS OFFERED FROM 1981 TO 1991. THE BIGGEST PURCHASES WERE FROM THE U.S. AND I BELIEVE FRANCE. THEY USED TO RACE THESE IN FRANCE AND I DO BELIEVE THEY USED TO OFFER A RACE VERSION OF THE FA50 IN EUROPE. MY FRIEND HAS A 1982 FA50 HE BOUGHT NEW FOR JUST UNDER $400.00 . HE STILL HAS IT AND I SERVICE IT FOR HIM, THE THING RUNS GREAT!!. AS FAR AS PERFORMANCE GOES, THE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO IS TO MILL YEAR HEAD TO RAISE YOUR COMPRESSION RATIO AND ADVANCE YOUR TIMING. YOU CAN ONLY MILL OFF SO MUCH ,NOT ALOT. CHECK YOUR FORMULA, CC's IS IMPORTANT ASWELL. YOU CAN ADVANCE YOUR TIMMING ON THESE THINGS ASWELL. HIS SCOOTER WITH HIS PAPER WORK IS AT ABOUT $1500.00.

Over the years I have had 6 or 7 FA's. I use to pick them up cheap at swapmeets because the sellers could not get them started. About half the owners didn't know you needed to hold the left brake lever in to get the engine to turn over. One guy thought the crank was broke and sold it for $60. The only things that really go wrong with them is letting gas go bad in the carb and running the bike out of oil.
One time I bought one that was siezed so tight I had to bust the piston out with a screwdriver and hammer. I just cleaned up the cylinder, put in a new piston/rings and it ran like a top.
One thing that I would check is the exhaust port. Over time and with the wrong oil in the injection system, the port will build up carbon and start to close up. effects performance alot.
I did have motorcycle shop mill a head and do some port work. Bike ran a little faster on top end but didn't notice much on lower end. Bike was really hard to start. REALLY HARD. Sometimes 5 min. or more.
My 2 cents anyway.

Almost forgot, you have to run the air cleaner. Won't run right without it. The filter does not have to be installed but the housing (both parts) must be on there.
