Might go with a Honda 450L, and even though it has less power I also liked the Kawasaki KLX 250 in Camo Gray, that would be a great bike to hide in the brush while climbing crags at the Stronghold, lol. Guess I keep looking today, I'm enjoying the search... still trying to find a suitable thumper, but I'm edging back toward the 250cc bikes because they're lighter and less expensive, only 300 lbs. or so, which means I could also throw it on the cargo carrier behind The Mighty Camry for out-of-state trips.

On the other hand, if I'm willing to deal with the weight, I can get a 650cc thumper on sale for $6700, lol. Y'all see my dilemma... thank goodness there are so many video reviews on the Interwebs, you can see & hear how each bike rides, 10-4? That's one downside to the 250cc class, the motors get noisy at freeway speed compared to the 400cc and 450cc bikes. "Buzzy" is how one rider put it, lol... that might get annoying if I were to ride it for any length of time, like out to Dago and back, a 450 would handle that task WAY better. But I'll probably drive my car anyway, so I can haul all my field gear and extra clothing for the trip... and the car would definitely be safer in Dago with all those Tijuaneros on the road, lol.

Anyway, I gotta get cleaned up and do some laundry, I never got around to it yesterday while searching for a suitable bike. I'll make a decision soon enough, it's just that there are so many choices... I'm like a kid in a candy store with these bikes on the Internet, lol. I've seen some really cool road bikes too, full-on rice rockets that would be GREAT for tooling around on pavement, but NOT so hot in the dirt, and that's a high priority for any bike ridden to the Stronghold... a rice rocket would be ridiculous out there, lol. Meh, I'll figure it out, I'm ready to have some fun this spring as the weather improves... though it's pretty darned nice right now, with a forecast high around 70 degrees this afternoon.

Y'ALL BE GOOD, I'LL KEEP YA POSTED ON WHICH BIKE I EVENTUALLY CHOOSE... [QUOTE="Coastal Redneck, post: 185372, member: 11287"] Stayed up late watching video reviews of various bikes... guess the Suzuki DRs are off the table, one guy didn't like the brakes on the 400 for road use, while the bike is tall and the wheels & tires are skinny. Might go with a Honda 450L, and even though it has less power I also liked the Kawasaki KLX 250 in Camo Gray, that would be a great bike to hide in the brush while climbing crags at the Stronghold, lol. Guess I keep looking today, I'm enjoying the search... still trying to find a suitable thumper, but I'm edging back toward the 250cc bikes because they're lighter and less expensive, only 300 lbs. or so, which means I could also throw it on the cargo carrier behind The Mighty Camry for out-of-state trips. o_O On the other hand, if I'm willing to deal with the weight, I can get a 650cc thumper on sale for $6700, lol. Y'all see my dilemma... thank goodness there are so many video reviews on the Interwebs, you can see & hear how each bike rides, 10-4?
