Replacement coil suggestions

Coil is shot in my 74 honda xl70, its a 6 volt battery, is there a newer coil I can purchase that would work? the ones suggested online have two pigtails coming from the coil where the one I pulled off had only the plug and one wire. Does that matter? Thanks in advance!

Let's hope that somebody didn't install a modern CDI (Capacitive Discharge Ignition) coil rather than the original Honda early 70's coil that it really needs. A CDI coil on these bikes with the original motor is a waste of money.

The bike has been in the family since it was bought new, it was put in a shed 10 years ago though. Nothing has been done with the coil since it was bought

The XL70 stators are the same as CT70H stators...the points and condenser are mounted right on the stator plate. The coil is also the same as the ct70h...one small wire and the plug wire.
The coils that have 2 small wires are for CL70's and I think maybe some of the ct90s?? Not sure about SL70's.

I'm pretty sure about all of that, but you should look into the flywheel at the stator and make sure there is a condenser in there. If there is, then you need the coil with only one small wire.
The stators that don't have a condenser mounted, have the condenser mounted on the coil...with the extra wire.

But...coils rarely fail. Be sure you need one before you spend the time and money.

Standard advice...
Use a AC tester, touching the black wire from the stator and any metal(ground) on the engine case, while kicking over the engine, to see if you are making power from the stator.
If you DO have power...
...connect a jumper wire from the BLACK wire from your stator...directly to the small black wire on your coil...then, check for spark.

But if you aren't getting power out of the stator...you need to find THAT problem, before you can blame the coil.
