I said i was done buying for the year. Out of habit though, i came home from work and checked craigslist, and this bike had been posted fifteen minutes ago. Local to me, and i was pretty sure i could fit it in the car. Seller said he had lots of bites but would hold it for me until the next day. Im pretty sure the buyers were put off by the enormous amount of back fees owed. I wasnt worried though since i plan to leave someday.
Owner had the bike sitting on the side of the house over the winter. Last tagged in 2015, so i had my doubts about how long it had sat.
California bike, engine and frame match within a few, title. I checked for all the usual st90 "unobtanium", and its all there. Front fender, speedo cable, intake, exhaust, turn signal mounts. It even had all the tools in the tool kit.
Ive already started cleaning it up, but she will probably never be anything more than a solid runner. My biggest battles are rust and oxidation on the aluminum.
I soaked the rusty parts in evaporust. Fenders exhaust, wheels, rear shocks, and fork legs. It worked well, but still left some of the bad acne. Im still trying out different aluminum cleaners, but havent hit the jackpot yet.
After some research here, i couldnt get 6v to the points. I replaced the condenser, but that didnt help. Took apart the killswitch and ran my test light. Power to one side of the contacts but not the other. Cleaned it up and wow. This bike runs smoother than any 50 or 70 i have.
Rebuilt the carb, but it didnt seem to need it. Fuel line exploded, and then i just started getting deeper and deeper into it. New tires and tubes, fuel lines, fixed the speedo needle, lubed cables, etc.
Thinking about getting the dratv lift kit for the supension but havent heard much about it on here.
