First EVER project

Appreciate your input racerx. I did put the decal on because frankly I didn’t have the rivets for the old vin plate, and instead I’ve kept the original plate which like anything can be applied anytime. It’s coming along I took some time while my wife picked at Christmas decorations to put my new stickers on. A little comparison to my Africa twin inspiration here too.

Very nice...well thought-out and done with tasteful restraint.(y)

You are absolutely right, as long as you retain the VIN tag, it can go back on the frame whenever it suits you. FYI, the locating fasteners are called "drive screws" and can be sourced from Dratv, among others...including Honda part vendors, as Honda-bagged parts. The old adhesive should be carefully removed, then replaced with automotive emblem adhesive; that's what actually keeps the tag on the frame. Be aware that the metal is, essentially, thick aluminum foil and must be handled with care.

Firstly, this bike is going to be top notch! Amazing job. Secondly, I didn’t think a mini bike would be allowed in the kitchen with your wife home!

Thanks guys. And yeah she’s pretty understanding of my foolish ways

she has a Christmas party tonight I may put the wheels back together, I need to size up the brake shoes tho and see what shape they are in or if they need replacing.

I am keeping it pretty simple with the white and black. The wheels are all done in black as well, as are my lower fork legs, and of course the handlebar and fork parts. I even have the signal light legs and housings done black too. The only remaining white parts are the fenders and the headlight bucket. I did the headlight ring in black also. Maybe tonight I’ll put some of those parts together on the couch

Little boredom test fitting of the new plate bracket and older tail light, and my factory rear signals with the powdered black mounts

Sorry guys this has been a crazy time for me, my second child came along just before Christmas, so with 2 under 2 it’s a busy busy world. I got some more work done today I figured worth sharing.
Next is the front forks.
FYI a lot of these parts are only on hand tight, but things are coming along.

Congratulations! On the newborn. Wow. Looks really good so far. I like it! Mine is still in the basement, pretty much ready to go. Just need to add some gas and fire it up. Winter is sticking around unusually long this year. Got about 10 cm of snow last night. Not great for biking. Hope you and you family are healthy.

Thanks. It’s been a great time, hectic but awesome. Two daughters will no doubt be a handful, hopefully one or both will take to the little Honda enough to drive it! In NL almost all the snow is gone from my property and it will be plus 6-10 degrees for the next few days. I’m still working through this pandemic in the field so I don’t get the home isolation time, but it will all come together soon. Post up pics of your bike here, I haven’t seen this site in months I feel like!

That looks great. The perfect addition switching out the black parts for the chrome to give the 70s look. I’ll post up more as I get things done. Hoping to have a rolling chassis in the next couple weeks.

I’d like to find a complete set of wheels and do them in gold (maybe a bronze, something a little darker than the z50 gold from the mid 80s) to see if I can make a true match to my Africa twin.

No rush for that tho

Some more progress. Reassembled the forks and just put them in place for now. Going to let it sit for a few days to make sure there’s no leaks out of the bottom bolts.
Please forgive the mess, nothing open to drop recycling off and I have to do a spring cleaning on the garage

A little update, the rolling chassis stage.
Also remounted the speedometer and headlight.
The motor is rebuilt with a stage 2 88 kit (race head, new carb, etc), HD clutch, HD oil pump, 16T front sprocket and new covers for each side. Before I post pics of that I want to scrub off the crank case so it’s cleaned up a bit.
But, here’s the bike!

(The headlight is just laid in place there for show, but gives an idea)

Appreciate it! Another little update. Motor installed but not tightened. And the footpegs, stand, kick start, shifter, at least it stands on its own. Wanted to take it out in the dusk light
