heat shield gasket

On the heat shield it appears there is a gasket that goes in the front clamp. I see them on ebay for $17. Is there an easy alternate option? Also the screws are $9/each. Where are you finding them?

Sounds way too hight to me. Check out the prices from Partzilla, items 7 & 18. Although this parts list is for a 1977, it's the same part for K0 - 78.

As CJ pointed out, I don't like the OEM gasket either. It traps moisture and rusts out the pipe within a couple of years. I agree with OLDCT, and use heat wrap as well. I have more than I'll ever use. If you're in the US, will gladly send you more than you need for $6 delivered.

Just shoot me a PM if interested.

Thank you for the advice and generosity. I ordered some heat wrap.
While talking about exhaust would it be wise to put a baffle in the bike? It does not have one and did not come with one. Thanks again.

The main heathshield screws are nothing really special. Dratv sells them in stainless steel flavor for $1.49 each.

And I cannot overemphasize just how bad the OEM packing insulator material is. It contains acidic compounds that quickly destroy plating and eat through the steel headpipe. Head wrap is far superior material.
