I tried to compare a cl70 cam to a z50 cam by eyeballing it but didnt see the difference. In my mind i would think the cl70 cam would see more extended high rpm than the sl70.

If anyone has some form of measuring any possible differences id like to try it.

Oldct i have the ss50 cam but once I installed the cam and turned the timing sprocket a full revolution it turned out the higher lift was causing my rocker arm to push the valve down further and bottom out on the top of the valve guide, I had to take a bit off the top of the valve guide to get it to work, have anyone needed to do this before on larger cams?

dratv says that you have to use different springs...with wide spacing...for the big cams...to prevent them from binding.

...I can't find it now, where they say that you "must" use these springs. But this is them.

It sounds like you have a different problem tho. I've never heard anyone mention bottoming out on the valve guide before.

Installed several of these cams when they were still available, I used the wide space springs, and brand new valves/rockers, no problems.
Dratv used to sell another cam called the Monster cam for 100 bucks that was probably the same cam as the SS50. All 6mm lift cams.
I purchased one of those also, no problems.

Yep got the wider springs from dratv..and using the tbparts valve rebuild kit with an aftermarket head from cmsnl.com. ...what jet size and clip position did you end up with using the larger cam?

It's been quite awhile, I didn't keep notes. Let's start out with, what cc's+carb are you using? I ran several different carbs with different cc's. The only one I didn't really have to touch, was when I ran a knockoff PZ dual inlet version of a ATC110 carb. I think I ran that with whatever it had and it was fine. 88cc. Can't remember if I tweaked the clip adj.

Cam from a CL70 on the right. Common 50/70 on the left...marked "41"
I made a impression of the lobes on the CL...then darkened it with a pencil. Hopefully you can see the slight difference in my pics. The difference is definitely there...but not drastic. The total lift is the same on both...5mm.

I dug in to find a 41 on the cam in the SL70 engine. But I didn't pull the cam. The 41 tells me that it's the common 50/70 cam.

Are there more degree marks ''10'' on the SL 41 cam versus the ''5'' on the CT cam?
I have two 41 cams with 5 lines and two that have ten lines...

That's a good question OLD CT.
That last pic IS the SL70 cam, and it looks like 5 marks on it.
I did see a cam in a bag that I had marked... from XL70... and it had a 41, but something was different...can't remember what. But it might have had more lines on it. (didn't know those were degree marks)
I think the 41 stamp looked different too. I'll maybe look again.

But I did compare that XL cam to my paper pattern, and it looked the same as the common 41 cam.

I have 4 cams from our member ''smooth'' parts lot purchase YEARS ago, all have ''41' like you said that the 41's do look a little different but 2 of em have more degree marks. Maybe the better XL version, has more marks? Another head scratcher!
