We got the guys together for our annual Put-In-Bay island, Ohio get together for a long weekend of relaxing, drinking and viewing the great scenery (Bikinis) Last year a buddy brought down 2 mint condition 1974's and we all were fighting over them taking them for cruises around the island. This year we brought 6 down and cruised the island sometimes with all six in a group. The island is about 2 miles x 2 miles in size, but we managed to put on 150 miles on each bike this weekend.

Bike rundown:
1974 near mint, 100% original, blue
1974 near mint, 100% original, orange
1970 HK0 Lifan 107cc 4 speed + Clutch 12volt CDI
1971 K0 Lifan 107cc 4 speed + Clutch 12volt CDI
1972 HK1 Lifan 107cc 4 speed + Clutch 12volt CDI
1971 HK0 Zongshen 125cc 4 speed + Clutch 12volt CDI + FMF CRF50 racing pipe

these 107cc motors have lots more torque and acceleration than the stock 70's, its a night and day difference.

THat pipe you have rocks, Dano!

When you are behind him and he "BRAAAPPPPS" the throttle, you can feel the shock wave on your chest. Sounds like a hopped up 4 stroke ATV.

Another great year at put-in-bay. Next year we have 2 more bringing bikes.

Maybe we should have a trail 70 webboard annual cruise there!

heres some info about put-in-bay for those who are interested:

Cool biz! You may have the start of a growing tradition. A small area like Put-In-Bay makes it possible for the guys riding stock bikes to easily join-in. Perhaps you'd attract a few more riders with advance word. I'd give it a shot. It seems like there's a fair number of riders within a 100-mile radius of Detroit.

I've been mulling-over the idea of putting together some rides but the most difficult issue is how to keep things manageable for the people on stock bikes. Traveling down a 45-50mph road doesn't sound like much fun if you're barely maintaining 40 on level ground with the throttle wide-open. If anyone has some ideas on how to address/overcome this issue, I'd like to hear them. I'll post some possible locations in the appropriate thread.

yep,

the speed limit on put-in-bay varies between 15mph and 35mph. Most of the time you are cruising side by side about 25mph at a relaxed enough pace that you can have a conversation with your buddy next to you.

Ohio doesnt require helmets, so this is wind in your hair, sun in your face experience. Normally I woluldnt be caught dead on a bike without a helmet, but there isnt much vehicle traffic on the roads, mostly golf carts and bicycles. Your bike does have to be legal for the street (motorcycle) plated and you need your motorcycle driving license.

There are some nice curvy roads with glimpses of the lake peeking between the houses.

At night time, the bars become alive, the bikes get parked and the fun begins!
Its like spring break every single night in the downtown district.

Sounds like a good time:D

The only other place I've been able to find (so far) is at the tip of the Keewenaw, past where US41 ends. The roads are all dirt and aren't actually roads in the first place; they're unmaintained, rock-strewn, snowmobile trails and you'd be nuts to even attempt 35mph on them. A stock bike would be right at home. Problem is, it's 600 miles from the Detroit area...not exactly convenient.

Good deal!

Now you got a hot rod and a stocker!

Are you keeping it stock?

Doug is buying Gibbys 1972 HK1. Its rough, but he is gonna strip it down and go through it all.

Dano, what bike is that FMF pipe designed for? Is it for an XR/CRF 70, or is it for a 50?

its from a honda crf 50 almost direct bolt-up had to fab a small easy to-do bracket for the rear mount under the seat as th crf pipe doesnt reach the ct mount by about 1.75"

yeah its stayin stock beedo its identical to my orange one except for the factory signals and street legal equip and of course the 3-speed auto, but the engine cases are great, seat pan is awesome, chrome's great. rims need p-coated and the top-end needs freshened up. but lisas' been riding the balls off of it!! oh and the bars are perfectly straight!!and to top it off only ran me $280

Looks like the makings of our little community's first <semi> organized ride. I'm going to start a new thread in the rides & events folder and see if perhaps we can get an additional ride or three going this year.
