Hey guys what 12v battery do you have and where to get one? Hard to find one small enough to fit in the original location?

12v battery - Where to get?

Hi All-

I haven't found a 12v sealed battery in the little 6v size- I can find 6v sealed batts, but not 12v.

Needs to be 2.75l, 1.9w, 4.2h.

the smallest I've found is 3.54"length. Can someone provide SPECIFIC information?

Thanks
(woohoo, first post!)

Too Big

Well, thanks. But that is even bigger than the one I had found.
The Yt4AL-BS you linked is 4.5"Lx2.8"wx3.4"H. That is for the later '91ish CT70.
I found a 12v 5ah that is 3.542.75Wx3.98H.
To clarify: I'm looking for a 12v the size of the early 6v battery.

Where did you find the 12v that is 3 1/2in, that is the smallest one i've heard of and will probably fit without the plastic protector in the little battery box.

The SLA1050 is 12v 4.5a - 3.54"Lx2.76"W, 4.13"H
I found a couple sites with a size chart,
http://www.powerstream.com/Size_SLA.htm
http://www.tempestbatteries.com/html/trseries2.html

TR2.3-12b (2.78x1.87x4) and TR2.9-12P (3.11x2.2x4.2) look like likely candidates to fit my stock bracket. Don't know if they are really available or not.

My Box looks like I might be able to go 3" long x 2.25" wide. No more. I thought folks were finding a sealed 12v battery the stock size, but I guess only in 6v. Maybe I will need to remove bracket or buy/fab a bigger one.

Thanks

I've been using a Genesis led acid battery 12v 1.2 amp hour on my monkey bike for a few years now and it works great. Cheep as hell too. They also make 4 amp hours but they are a little bigger. I could fit the 4 amp hour but I need to modify my battery tray.

Sealed batteries are available in 6 & 12v and the sizes are virtually identical. The biggest difference is in the a/h capacity. Unfortunately, I never noted the model/brand and have since switched over to the larger battery. Any decent battery shop should be able to determine what you need if you bring your old 6V leaker for comparison.

6V 3.9AH and 12V 1.9AH are nearly identical in size and very close in size to the OE battery. Sealed 12V 4.6AH units are 2.625 x 3.50 x 4.00. You won't find a 12V 4.2AH battery that's close to OE size. Voltage, AH rating and size are related.

I measured my box and looks to me like 3"Lx2.2"W max. I may need to find/fab a different box, I just didn't want to.

Interstate batteries have both of these:
SLA1050 4.5 Ah is 3.54"x2.75"wx4+"h
SLA1022 2.7 Ah is 3.11Lx2.1"wx4"h

http://www.tempestbatteries.com/html/trseries1.html
Tempest TR2.3-12B is best fit, 2.76x1.85x3.9 but is special order only. No telling the cost. Seems the smaller the costlier.

The tempest is the only 12v I've found which looks to fit the early 6v batt box. But I'm new here. Thought this would have been dealt with before...?

Problem is most websites cross by application, very few sites have list of dimensions. I will need to go or call somewhere, unless someone has the numbers...

Good luck!

Third and final try at posting. Please forgive if duplicated.

I measured my battery box, (1972) and it looks like 3" length max, 2.25" width maybe, tops. I did find one that is the size of the old 6v batteries, but not sure if its available. The
Tempest TR2.3-12B (2.3 Ah) is approx. the size of the 6N2a. But it is special order only.
http://www.powerstream.com/Size_SLA.htm

At Interstate batteries, I found the SLA1050 (4Ah) and SLA1022 (2.7 Ah) which is slightly smaller. Do a search at www.interstatebatteries.com.

Hardest part is most online searches require the application, can't search by size. As Reynolds Brad points out, I could look for batteries that fit by placing them 'on end', like the Genesis NP1.2-12. But it is only 1.2Ah.

Hopefully not flogging the horse here-

The Tempest TR2.3-12B is 2.76x1.85x4. Pretty much perfect for the batt box I was looking at, with the plastic liner. I called Batteryspec.com and spoke with Ron. 12 weeks out on special order.

I found another batt box in the parts pile. It is 3-1/8x3-1/8, no liner evident. Lots more possibilities now. Apparently there are multiple sizes of batt boxes out there...

Batteries plus retail store carries a 12v 2.9t which is 3x3x4. $14.00. Lots in stock. Done deal.

BTW- this is about converting an early 6v bike to 12v clone, using stock early batt box. No electric start.
