I'm largely in agreement with Gary. However, where my view differs is with what has changed over the years...pump gas; it's gotten really dirty. My main rider has a sealed tank, the white tank coating shows every little bit of crap in the tank. I see more tank accumulation after 3 fill-ups than I did 5 years ago, after an entire season of riding. So, yes, it really is a bandaid but, the current state of play more than justifies the "belt & suspenders" approach...to mix metaphors in a blender. As for fitting an inline filter on a Z50, you'll need to add a small loop of fuel line to get everything to fit, without going below carb inlet level.
