1971 CT70HKO Project

New guy here, just picked up my first Trail 70, a 1971 CT70KOH for $800. The first order of business is to rebuild the carb. The bike runs, but idles a bit funky. I also need a gas cap. Any suggestions as to sources for the rebuild kit and cap?

The plan is to restore it to perfection, but with some personalization like a custom paint scheme and some performance upgrades. Looking forward to getting to know you folks. If any of you ever get over to ThumperTalk, look for me on the WR450F board, as I moderate over there. Later bros...SC

Got the carb taken apart and cleaned the hell out of it today. I can't believe the bike even started given how the jets and other passages looked. I guess the previous owner had stored the thing for many moons without draining the carb. I could've glazed a ham with all the varnish in it. Not so now...two cans of Citrol, some OOO steel wool, a toothbrush, dental pick, and about 4 hours, and this little bad boy is ready for a rebuild kit. That got ordered today and will be in first part of next week. I'm looking forward to seeing how it runs with proper fuel flow. It had a pretty nasty hanging idle, when it idled, and seemed to be underpowered. I'm expecting great things. I also downloaded and printed out a copy of the shop manual. My next step will be a new air cleaner, new plug, valve clearance check and that ought to give me a reasonable idea of what this little puppy will do. More to follow...SC
