This guy has this bike marked as 78; but it's a Bright Yellow79.
I got a 79 from AZ a couple years ago so am familiar. The pics aren't great on this auction. It looks like he put an aftermarket Decal on it, from what I can tell other than that it's original. Kinda a cult following with this model. Interested to see the sale price.

IMO, the chrome fenders are great. I would just mothball the original yellows.

Lol! Good call Plano, I missed that one.

Uhmm I got to respectively disagree with you racerX, it looks like that decal is a one piece, the 79' originals are two piece. Here's the center piece off of mine.

CJ, I think some 79's had the guard installed by the dealer, mine did but it could be mid-production they stopped installing em, best guess. :)

Thanks. I couldn't remember exactly if it was the '78 or '79 that had that happen. I can see the holes for it on this bike, but can't tell if it has rubber deletes in them.

Interesting...that guy's bike was made 8/78, never seen one with a 78 tag.

Mine is 3/79.
The other side of the steering tube provides some cool specs. That's a plate not found on early models. Prob cause there ain't No smog equipment on early models :mad2:
I think after 79 in 1980, the engine shield bosses were un-tapped ie. no holes.

Can't see enough detail in those pix, on my laptop screen, to make the one-piece vs 2-peice call...hadn't realized that's what you were talking about. If those are repop decals, they went on pretty well. Only obvious fluffing is the chainguard.

The engine guard was deleted with the `79, though a number of them were dealer-installed. The threaded bosses were gone by `81, the first of the "JH" frames, not sure about the `80, which was the last of the "CT" series. FYI, it's not a matter of not drilling & tapping the frames, they're stamped sheetmetal. There were welded-in dual inserts, with threaded ends, in all of the first-gen frames; these were deleted with the second-gen.

IMO, those EPA compliance tags are a waste. :censored: the feds...
