Cylinder head identification

. I posted last week about trying to piece an engine together as I have a a early K2 bottom end but need a cylinder and head. Can I use any head off of a newer engine (pre 1981) Are there any castings on the head that I should be looking for.? I would like to keep the motor as much as possible Honda OEM parts. Thanks for all the help

Yes...pre 81 is probably right...I'd say pre 79...cause I'm not sure about a 81.
As far as casting marks...E7 thru E9 are common on the early CTs. E10 maybe.
Stamps that have a L...in my mind are from later years...above 1975 maybe..?
When you're shopping for heads, watch for broken fins, and stripped threads...spark plug and intake mounts especially. Also, broken exhaust studs can be a big problem to cure

I just acquired a CT70 engine with a head with a M3 casting number on it. Is that a CT70 head or is it off of another model such as a SL or Xl. Could I use it on my CT motor if it is?

Guess I don't know for sure...but I think, yes. They did use some M stamps on early CTs. But I think they might have used them on other head castings...for other bikes, too.
You could measure the intake port on the top of the head...where the intake bolts on... If it measures around 22mm or a little less...it's probably the right head.
