Gearing a 110ct

I can go 40, perhaps 45 with the help of earth conditions. I was wondering if any gear changes would be beneficial. I have the high low box but have never used it because I have not gone on any dirt yet.
Don't want to over gear it but if the bike can handle 1-2 teeth change with a 180 lbs rider, I may do it depending on what the benefits are.

I found this discussion, I have a 110 with stock gearing, best I can remember is about 53mph WOT with 180lb. rider, not sure how accurate the speedo is.

What's your goal. To be able to go as fast as possible, to accelerate to 40 as fast as possible. or to cruise comfortably, top speed be damned. I had many a CT both 90 and 110 and I've found dropping two or three teeth on the rear sprocket and switching to street tires results in a sweet ride. But you're not me.

50 mph give or take is about as fast as a stock CT110 will go and there's nothing wrong with that. With a 42t rear sprocket I don't think it will go any faster, in fact it might be a couple of mph slower, but it will be more pleasant cruising at 40-45.

Well if it cuts top end then that would be over gearing the motor. Don't want to do that even though it would quite the motor by lowing the rpm.
Since I can't get to 50 now I'm hoping that 42 will give that 50 w/o over gearing.

There's nothing wrong with overgearing, that's what overdrives do. With the CT's dual range trans, there's an extra set of gears the power has to travel through and they are noisy when spinning at full tilt. That's why I'm a fan of the bastard stepchild '80 CT110.
