How do you remove this race?

It's the lower race on the triple tree? I'm powder coating and it looks like there's a thin rubber shim below it. I've struck out on my luck...

The rubber seal under the race just stretches over the groove at the bottom. Pull it off and tell the shop you don't want it damaged when they blast it.

I had a hard time figuring that out as well. Bought a new set of tapered needles but was stuck on how to get that off. So I took a Dremel to it and basically cut a groove in it, most of the way thru, then pried it off with a big flat blade screwdriver. Tried not to nick the tree. Worked just fine, I'm sure not the most professional job and a little hack-y but got it done.

I just removed that same part on wife's ko & put alittle heat on it then used a screwdriver underit & it popped right up , everything looked reusable if I wanted to go that route but installed All Ball's tapered bearings so the old setup got $hitcanned .

I never replace with the caged bearings, I always reuse the 42 balls, main reason: because in 40 years, I want the next guy to have as much fun chasing around those little bastard balls as I did! (plus I am cheap)

Most times, you can heat the race with a torch and turn the triple tree over and bang it on the workbench and it will just fall off. On some stubborn ones, you heat it a push it off with a screwdriver.

These races do wear, especially the lower. Totally agree with Senior-A, ditch the loose balls and races and get a proper taper bearing kit in there.
