There is a book out called Classic Honda Motorcycles by Bill Silver published approximately 15 years ago. In it they addressed this very same issue but it was not with aftermarket parts but the actual parts that Honda would have made. The example used was an exhaust system on old 305's. Honda would wait until they had x number of people requesting them then with the original prints job shop them out. Quality was not near the originals but the consensus was that it was better to have to work on a new part to get it to fit than find a rusty bent up old one and do it all anyway. Like I said in my seat thread I don't understand why such extreme work is done on these repro's,getting so close and missing it by fractions . I had taken off my bolt on tool carrier seat since other than it's cover it is mint. I take the tools out of the old seat go to put them in the new- they don't fit. The opening is smaller than the original.....
Forgot to add that I bought a bunch of NOS parts for my 50 in the early 90's,don't think I paid more than 35 bucks each for most things- bars, fenders, taillight bracket etc. One of the bars was never polished before it was chromed so it has sort of a brushed finish. At the time I was very happy to have found them. Should have bought a bunch of that stuff....
