Making trail memories

Wow! No helmets, way to go. Teaching your young kids how to end their lives at an early age?

Just my opinion but for such a simple thing to wear they prevent alot of serious injuries.

Your bikes are wicked though!

Guess it depends on how you where brought up.

Me:
Riding dirt bikes with a leg cast, out running the DNR down an old dirt road, hydroplaning 4 wheelers across long ponds, burning down the road on triple cylinder snowmobile engines on nitrous stuffed into 4 wheelers, go carts with 360cc 2 stroke dirt bike engines and no breaks, hooking acetylene torches to car engines and watching them blow up and .................Man where those good memories. Well like I said, all about how your brought up.

Oh I almost forgot. I slipped in the bathroom and cracked my head on the side of the tub a couple months ago. Few stitches. I suppose I could make my kids where a helmet from now on when they take a bath. Just kiddin ya about the helmets.:3:

My 4 kids are in college in various states. They survived me and my ways. The vid is of my nephews.

We never wore helmets either...It was a whole different world back then. You had to be tough. I didn't even own a helmet until I started racing and it was mandatory. It was strange for me to see kids wearing helmets on bicycles! When we would go in the car I would stand in the middle of the front seats between my parents flying down the hiway at 80mph! Of course I was a lot smaller then, but we never wore seatbelts either. It's all in how you were raised.

My Dad had a saying he always told me when I got hurt..."If you're going to be dumb, you got to be tough".

I didn't wear any protective gear back in the 70's and 80's too but, both my Son and I wear a full set of protective gear including reflective vest when we ride. Heck, I even remember sitting on seat belts. Selt belts were an annoyance you sat on or stuffed into the seat cushions. My family buckles up where ever we go now and not just because it's a law either. Personal safety has come along way since the 60' and 70's. How many of your mother's smoked and drank when they were pregnant with you? It's simply amazing we all survived our childhoods.

just how we were brought up!!!

I agree on that 100% being 50 now when we were kids there was no protective gear,no such thing as car seats, call me cxrazy but I never wear a helmet on my rides in the woods and ride almost daily. Now when the YZ450 comes out its a different story.Theres something enjoyable about the wind in your face going thru the woods in the mornings.Your correct though we should be safty minded,at times I think we have gone to far though. In South Carolina helmets arent required at all,Its normal to see a Busa riding without.I believe when your number comes up,a helmet wont make a beans of difference,Thats why we have freedom of choice here,be safe and have fun everyone:firefire:

I'm glad to see I'm not the only "back in the day" guy on this board.

With all the safety cards trumped at every turn now adays you'd think no one should have lived past the 60's.:hippie:

Holy cow I just realized I was typing this post without my carpal tunnel brace on.:24:

I think all things need to be considered equally here

We all know how seat belts were viewed when first introduced into cars. Companies felt they would make people think cars were not 'safe' We also know people who opposed safety devices like Dale Earnhardt with the hans device could have had their lives saved with such a device. There is no mystery there the hans device would have saved his life, his refusal to move into the now was what got him killed. He was another 'old school' guy who refused to wear safety equipment or contribute to safety equipment development. Such is the tough guy, I guess he never changes until he is dead

Things are not equal. Back in the day your dirt bike or quad was a slow, poor performing piece of machinery. This is not the case with new school bikes. Back in your day MX riders were not doing double back flips, forward flips, or Hart attack seat grabs in a backflip.

Yes, safety equipment has been a big deal lately and some of it is overkill, but please tell me the disadvantage of wearing a helmet or other safety equipment? Or teaching your kids to protect themselves

In my opinion, anyone who rides a bike without a helmet is just following natural selection. The single biggest cause of motorcycle related injuries and deaths are helmetless riders and these people make all riders look bad. I have never felt wearing a helmet was such a big deal, call me a wuss if you want to, I just think it makes sense to protect your body with the tools and technology available

All said;
everyone operates within what their conscience will allow.

I'm funny about dogs lately.
I have a 4yr old lab that is very gentle and a good dog however when my little niece comes over (2yrs old) I lock the dog up. I'm fearful of what could happen. Probably all the stuff on the news over the past few years about dog attacks kinda got to me. Until my niece is a little older I don't want here around my dog.
