Might be buying my first one

I have a potential first buy and I need to know what to look for when I go to inspect it. The bike is gold in color so that should make it a 69, 70 or 71. The owner could not tell me the exact year. The bike runs and its a 3-speed. Its supposed to be in pretty good shape. The only known defects are the headlight does not work and the carb leaks after shutting off. The owner does not have the title but that can be remedied. Asking price: $100

Thanks in advance

You definitely can't argue with that price. Even if it turns out to be too ragged to fix up, it should be worth more than that in parts.

Absolutely, positively do not buy that bike!! Run as fast as you can in the other direction.

But before you go, exactly where was it located again???:D

A CT70 that runs for a Benji is a steal.

The bike is not actually on the market right now so I don't have to worry about someone buying out from under me.

I keep hearing about these barn finds that people make so I decided to ask the electrician that I have working for me on a job site if he knew of anyone that had a CT in storage somewhere? He's a country boy so I figured if anybody would know of one, he would. And he did: himself. His grandpa has it stored in his garage and just wants to get rid of it.

Unfortunately, I won't be back on this particular job until Monday so I have to be patient until then.

Well, Grandpa backed out. I was alittle pi$$ed at first because I was lead to believe we had a deal. I'm over it now but I'm still not sure if wasn't really my electrician who actually cancelled the deal. I suspect it may turn up on evil-bay sometime soon; which may be good news for one of you.

My search continues...

Yep,the electrician started talking about it to others since it got brought up, or it probaly would have sat there another good while. For that price you should have made the deal ASAP,word travels quickly.I'm sure you'll find another but not at that price.

Good luck,

Yeah, . . . show up at every possible deal with cash in your pocket. A lot of times when you pull our a stack of bills the seller's brain shuts down and he makes the deal with out thinking any more about it. Wave a handful of Benjies at most used car salesmen and they will wet themselves. :D

That's sure the truth . . . last night i bought a 2 year old, never been riden china bike (exquisite 90gy) missing a rear rim & tire for $150 . . . he told me to show up at 6:30, I was there at 6:00, bought it, loaded it up stood around talking for a bit being interupted every so often so he could answer his cell and say, "sorry, it just sold" and then at precisely 6:30, a couple of other guys showed up . . . sorry guys, I won this baby!

The engine should bolt right into a CT70 . . .

Back to the original Question, what to look for in a used CT buy?

:monkey:Back to the original Question, what to look for in a used CT buy?

Reading these threads, I assume Rust is the first, non-running, engine spins, ... Seat Pan, bushings, what else to look for? I am going out to look at a 1970 on Saturday non-running

TIA
