I just got this and was wondering what you all think of it, I got it running this morning and got up to about 30MPH couldn't rightly tell exactly because the speedometer and odometer isn't working, was wondering if that was due to the battery not working or some other issue. It appears to be a black tag model if I am not mistaken.

Does anyone know how to use the Vin to see if it were stolen or anything like that I don't believe it was but I'd like to make sure since it doesn't have a title.

Welcome to the site. Ask questions. Folks like to help and share what is hey know.

For example, don’t assume that leaking carb needs to be replaced. There are rebuild kits available. A good carb cleaning and rebuild would be a good first task.

Oh! I know it doesn't need to be replaced and I do intend on rebuilding it I just found another for $16 with air filter included probably a throw away carburetor, but it saves me having to pay $30 for all the parts and an additional $12 for the rebuild kit. Because I want to get it going good ASAP and since I have never rebuilt a carb ill have to learn how first.

You have the original engine. The sequence #'s are within the usual range of each other.
The throw away carbs are usually a waste of time and money and can cause alot of frustration trying to tune. Your throttle cable length may not work with them either. Alot of people have had luck with the PZ19 carb. They're cheap too. Just take your time and study the Tech Area and Project/Builds section of this forum. It will take awhile, but you'll be glad you did later.lol. You can still ask questions when you need too.

See, I am so new to this to engines even that I didn't know I am supposed to tune a carb, I thought you just slap it on and go. I'm still looking for if someone could help me find out if the bike has a clear history or not so if anyone could run the Vin or whatever to find out it would be appreciated.

You could run it by the local tag agency, but I doubt it will even show up in the system.
Would that be my local DMV or some other place, it originally came from California and hasn't been registered or licensed since 1972 since that's the year of the plate on it.

So I called the DMV for my state and the California DMV and both had no record of it, so would that mean it was never reported stolen or, I plan on getting a VIN check by a peace officer, any advice.

I am going to get a Vin check this week sometime let's hope it's not stolen. But Riddle me this what kind of thief leaves the original license plate from 1972 on it and gets the key.?
