New CT90 Owner Question

Hello,

I recently just bought my first 1968 Honda ct90. It had been sitting for decades, but a friend of mine got it up and running. As I am unfamiliar with ct90s and their semi-automatic transmissions, I had a question. While in gear, I need to twist the throttle a good ways before the bike actually starts moving. The engine starts revving up immediately, but the gears don't engage until I'm at about a quarter throttle. Is this normal, or is there something wrong with the transmission?

Thank you

Thank you for your responses. Unfortunately, the clutch adjustment screw is seized and partially stripped. I'll try freeing it by taking off the engine side cover. If adjusting the clutch doesn't work, then I'll try replacing the disks.

It may just need to have the clutch adjusted. Loosen 14mm nut, turn screw clockwise then counter clockwise until you feel resistance, then clock wise a 1/4 turn, readjust as needed.
