New Spokes, Worth the Price

Hi CT, ST, CL, SL etc owners. My CL90 cleaned up pretty well (though far from OE), but the old spokes were ugly and a detraction. So I took a shot and bought a set of chrome spokes from Thailand on Ebay. Worked out to about a dollar a spoke including shipping and tax ($76), and they arrived in a week. They're high quality and a bit thicker than stock. Length was perfect and installation was easy. Gave me a chance to clean and polish up hubs as well. Made the worst part of my bike become the best part.

I’ve done several with the wheel on the bike and zip ties on the shocks cut to the rim. When the wheel is true the zip ties don’t touch the rim on either side when it spins

I have a piece of square steel tubing with a hole drilled in it to fit the axle. I mount it in my bench vise, with bar stock (axle size) and supported on the other end on a wood block. With the rim mounted, I have pointers made from phillips screwdrivers. I adjust for runount in the vertical, then the horizontal. The chrome rim acts as a mirror, so runout appears twice as much as it actually is. Fairly easy to true a rim. Fortunately, I have a 12" metal lathe, so I can chuck up the the bare hub and polish it out.
