POWDERCOAT SAMPLE MIX

I have elected to powder coat two CT70's. I spent the last two months chasing down paint samples from Prismatic Powder coat in Oregon. I even went so far as to send two new head light buckets to them: to no prevail. Their powders do not closely match

Xtreme Temperature Coatings, here in CT, will be bead blasting and powder coating my bikes. They are charging me $175 for the bead blast and powder coat painting. I am to provide the paint.

Xtreme Temperature suggested Jamestown Powder Coats for mixing a sample batch to closely match the colors. Come to find out, it is a little expensive. I am looking for Sapphire Blue and Orange Topaz. What I am hoping for, is that someone has already found a close Matching color (in powder coat (Sapphire Blue and Orange Topaz ) or that some of you are willing to join me and share the cost.

The cost quoted are: $250 for the sample panels (they send 2 samples.) We would have to ship the panels between us for all's approval. If we order 25Lbs or more, the cost per Lb is $30.78. Xtreme Powder coating estimated that it would take 3-4Lbs to paint the front forks, main frame, swing arm and Shock covers. If we purchase less than 25Lbs, the cost per Lb goes up to $41.64: and, we have to pay an additional $100 set up fee. On the other hand, there are price breaks after ordering 50Lbs and 100Lbs or more.

For those of you who wish to confirm the information provided, the telephone number of Jamestown Powder Coating is (814 774 9801.) They are located in Girard, Pa.

Anyone interested?

I don't see the advantage of powder coating a frame set. The negatives out weigh the positives of a durable finish. If someone had this shop do a CT frame and can say it came out perfect and they are happy with their work that would help you get some support here. I wouldn't chance it without proof. Quite a while back there was a member that powder coated ct70 frames here. He did great work. He knew what to mask like the ignition hole, so the key switch will ground and the inside where the engine and coil bolts up. I'm also sure he had to put a LOT of time in AFTER powder coating to remove orange peel and such. The shops you mention are not going to give you that kind of service and attention to detail of doing several CT70 frames and having it look perfect. Just my thoughts...
