Repair Clutch Cover?

I just picked up a 4 speed engine that has a 1/8 by 1-1/2 crack in the clutch side cover near the base of the kick starter shaft. Has anyone tried welding a crack on a side cover before, do you think it is worth a try or do I need to replace the side cover?

Thanks,
Dan

The vintage Honda castings were pretty good, more than worthy of repair. In spite of this, you'll be ahead of the game by simply replacing the broken clutch cover. All-in, which includes finding a seasoned pro to heliarc the break, metalfinishing the repair & repainting, you'll have $75 invested, minimum...plus a couple hours of your time/labor, if you know what you're doing and have the equipment necesary to do the job. As much as I like seeing things fixed & returned to good condition, this is one instance where the OEM vendor is your best friend.

Can't think of any reason why you couldn't. You might e-mail Mike at Trailbikes with this question before ordering one, just to be certain.
