Revs high in Neutral then shuts off after giving gas.

Ok so i fixed one problem now im on to the next. Long story short, it only idles when you first start it and once you give it gas and let off, it dies. It also has a high rev and holds that rev for a few seconds after letting off the throttle. I can only guess that the float is the problem but i tried adjusting it and didnt really do much. I also thought the cable may be causing the issue in some sence but not exactly sure. As always, any help is appreciated, thanks!

Yea, I agree. Some kind of a vacuum leak - usually at the manifold. For grins, you might try stretching out your throttle return spring (under the carb cap with the needle valve) or replace it to get the needle valve to close quicker which might eliminate the high idle. You will likely need to reset the carb adjustment screws (Gently!!) if you have been trying to compensate for the vacuum leak a while.

This is not a float problem. The float only meters fuel into the carb bowl, not into the engine for higher RPM. The needle valve is what controls RPM. A bad float will cause fuel to overflow if stuck open or lean and hot engine operation if set to stay closed too much due to running the float bowl empty of gas.

Adding to the float, im not sure if these carbs have an idle reserve circuit, but if the float is shutting off too early, the idle reserve isnt filling, so when you crack it wide open it bogs, revs nice if you pulse the throttle, then dies. My bike is exactly the same, hard to start, doesnt like to idle. Ive replaced all manifold gaskets, didnt help much

Ok well i will play with it tommarow and see what i can find. Any info i'll add to the thread to help with anyone else who has or may have this problem in the future, thanks once again!
