Starting ST90 with dead battery?

Should you be able to start a 1973 ST90 with a dead battery??
Mine will not start if the battery is dead.

No..they are battery dependant..they need a charged battery to start...mine is the same way..which sucks cause you hafta do battery nmaintenance...good bikes and they are much faster then any ct70...just gotta have charged battery...go to honda get a new battery...they are almost always pre charged and ready to go...get rid of the selenium rectifier for modern soild state (about 40bucks and easy install)...your st90 will run for years then

Thanks. My battery is good but I don't ride it enough to keep the battery charged and like you said, the battery maintenance sucks.

your battery should be fully charged.....you might be able to roll down hill and throw it into gear....I had to start my ct70 that way for a while.

Are you talking about a modern solid state rectifier? My bike has a 3 dollar one from radio shack. does the rectifier act as an alternator to charge the battert while riding?
