Starting to rebuild, what do I have?

This is my son's bike, it's been sitting in the back yard for over 25 years, I live in Massachusetts so it's seen some weather but it's actually in pretty good condition considering. I don't have the motor, it's in Maine and is literally a basket case, more than likely all the parts aren't still in the basket anyways. It's probably blasphemous but I'm going to put a mid motor Ebike conversion on it. I've started to look around for parts, where are some of the places to get parts? I've also noticed there's a few variations in model numbers. Here is a picture of the nameplate and the bike, I'll assume by the 3/72 it was made in March of 1972, Other than it's a CT70 is it any particular model? Obviously a long way to go before I ride but that will be the fun part. Thanks for any info.

If you still have access to the matching engine in Maine don’t give up on it. Someday you may want to go back to original. The engine case with the engine serial number is key. Plenty of spare engines around to replace anything that might be missing. Plenty of good engine folks here to help you out. CHP or DR ATV are good places to start for parts. Parts list and schematics available on CMSNL.com site.

Thanks for the replies. Knowing that it's a K1 will help in narrowing down parts. I'm not going to dump the motor just at this point in time it will be easier, and cooler, to go electric. Hopefully my son still has the box of parts and one day will try getting it back together as well.

Thanks again

While looking for some parts, the skid plate specifically, The description says it's 1969 to 1973 model K0. Is there a difference between the K0 and the K1 that dirtbkr188 mentioned? I would imagine that a lot of the parts are interchangeable between models.

thanks

If you are going the electric route, do your homework and make sure your mid drive motor has enough torque for the relatively heavy and fat tired CT70, or if you have to gear it short enough you may not be happy if your top speed is only 20 mph. A better choice might be a mobility scooter motor. Used ones are cheap, and powerful. Also, for less money, you could drop a nice little Chinese engine in there and effectively be a straight bolt-in.

To Old Guy Too many Bikes, I've been looking into different options but think that a 1800W 48V motor will do. There's a number of videos on YouTube of people making bikes and go karts with them. It will be mostly a trail bike and I don't need to be going crazy fast doing jumps and stuff. just want to be able to get up a hill.

To Old CT, thanks for the info, seems most of the places that sell them are out of stock but there are a few on Ebay, the skid guard will make a good mount for the motor plus I want to protect it as well.

thanks all

In any case, sounds like an interesting build, (especially since I've done several e-bike, e-car, e-scooter, e-railroad conversions). Please keep us in the loop on your progress.
