Step By Step for Spinner/Screen Cleaning on '74 K3 3speed

On the first post here, after the step by step instructions, I put a link for the 4speeds. Somehow it has changed and I cant change it back.

I couldn't find that one (in the OP) either...and I dug back to 2010. Dunno if the html tag is injured, or if the post to which it was once linked no longer exists...a lot has changed since then, including the migration to the current platform.

The question in my mind..."what am I missing?" I mean the working link shows your 4-speed. Ins't that the info you're trying to share? If I've missed the bus, yet again, let me know.o_O

Right after the last picture of where I'm showing where the oil can be poured in through the valve cap, I put a link, "This is a link for the 4speeds.". When I click on it, I'm redirected to a page that says, "404 not found". When I went to erase the flawed link and put the correct one in, I got another error number. I think I will go ahead and just add another link and leave the old one.

Apparently, I can't add or edit anything in the post. When I hit the save changes, an "Error has just occurred" box pops up. I think our recent format change has prohibited me from making changes in my old threads....I guess. Maybe its just my laptop, I have no clue. Anyway, if you can, please add the link at the top or bottom of the post. It wont let me do squat.lol

I think I found the problem. I was able to edit the link, via cut & paste...the edit won't "take". The error message I get is that the post contains more than 10000 characters. That appears to be different from the pre-2017 platform.

I'm about halfway through this on my 79. This thread couldn't be much more detailed. It let me feel pretty confident going in. Still have to break free the spinner cover screws. One step I missed is the loosening the clutch adjustment screw before removing cover, hope this isn't going to a problem when I reassemble. Everything is surprisingly clean inside so far. No sludge build up and oil screen clean as could be. I'll stress the need of having an manual impact driver and a good set of bits. Maybe some haven't needed one, but I can attest I doubt I'd have freed one of the main cover screws without one. Hopefully I'll have the same success with the spinner cover ones. Couple of questions in regards to these screws, I'll be replacing the spinner ones as suggested, but what about the main cover ones? The head slots look like they have distorted a little, but seem totally reusable. Should I just replace them too? Thanks for taking the time to put this thread together, I don't think folks realize the time it must have taken to do so.

Easy way to learn semi-auto clutch adjustment. When you reinstall the RH cover, seat it...without screws...then tighten the preload screw until you first feel resistance, then see/feel the entire RH cover being lifted away from the RH case. Use this little "trick" to learn what contact feels like, so that you can determine the true zero-lash point. From there, set the preload clearance with ~1/8 turn from seated/zero-lash and you'll probably find the adjustment to be spot-on when you go for that first ride.

New case screws are readily available. NEVC is the best source, imho.

Glad you liked it. The spinner servicing had been asked about SO many times, I thought this thread really needed to be done. Its really hard to describe without pics. What took the most time was taking and uploading the pics.lol
New screws will make it look nicer, wont be dirty, and will make it easier the next time.
