***URGENT HELP NEEDED*** Cam side cover problems

Is the cam side cover supposed to push into the cam gear?

After I torque down the side cover, I cannot easily rotate my crank. And when I remove the cover and I can see that its rubbing the cam gear.

How do I remedy this?

Here is a pic of the cover/gear in question. You can see where the cam gear is rubbing.

Hey tap on it to drive it end with a hammer easy, if that wont work the rocker arm is to one side holding it and u need to line them up with the cam.

To actually answer your question I would compare the old cam gear{if you still have it} to the new one.
Look to see if there is an actual difference in the thickness.

I tested that. And of the three gear checked, they were all different thicknesses. I haven't checked the one in the motor, because well, its in the motor. but, I think I may end up pulling it out and checking.

But first I'll try whatever it is that mark has suggested. Lol. I'm pretty sure I know what he meant.

Oh yeah. Does anyone know what the thickness of these gears is supposed to be? Anyone have some NOS lying around to measure?

:23:Looks like the cam isn't all the way in. MP is saying the rocker arm may be keeping it from going in all the way.
Rocker arm loosen, hammer tapp'n for to cam all in way :4:
;)Couldn't resist Mark, don't be po'd at me.

It may look that way in the photo, but in fact that is not the case. the cam gear was lying flush against the head material wheat the cam resides.

since I had a spare head lying around along with multiple cam gears, we (oak and I) tried every combination of head, gear, and cover, all yielding the same results = friction.

we then turned to Oaks innocent bike, resting nicely in the middle of the garage. we removed his side cover, replaced it with the one I was using, checked for movement, and guess what? It moved fine. no excessive friction or binding.

which led us to conclude one thing, my engine is F'd. using this new information to my advantage, I did the only thing logical. I ground down the side cover until it no longer came in binding contact with the cam gear.

I then proceeded to find the stripped oil plug threads. yay!

I have given out too much rep for today. you all have some coming. Hooray!
