Direction of the top engine mounting bolt

I think I have been installing the top engine mounting bolt wrong on all my project bikes. Which side does the head of the bolt( with a short threaded section protruding off of the head ) go? Gear shifter side or kick starter side? Thanks, Kenny.

The head, with the stud protruding goes on the shifter side. The stud is where the air cleaner lower mount bolts on.

Yep, this allows removal & re-installation of the airbox canister without disturbing the engine mount. Also, the barrel nut on the exhaust side would be too far outboard, if this bolt were reversed.
