A quick search on the internet shows me Gary Lewis from Vintage Honda Minitrails has them. 20 a piece, plus shipping.

Thanks OLD CT, but I have called that guy 4 times about the springs, he kept putting me off and wants to tell stories instead of looking for them. Today, he said that he does not have them! I am not going to deal with him any more.

Thanks Roy.

I have never purchased anything from him, good to know! I am pretty sure I have 2 used springs, if you can't find new. I usually use the aftermarket HD springs that are on ebay. Not sure if they are still selling them. Tammy from Fla, was the seller.

Roy, did you see the used set on ebay that seem pretty clean? Item # 153281909515 in Oregon? $35 or B/O plus shipping.

Roy needs K1 to 79 Kirb. The dratv HD springs for the K1 to 79 are ''too HD'', I don't recommend them. I have a set that I removed right away. I found the hd springs I used. Item # 183073119318

They are longer and sometimes if you are a light rider or if you hear the front ''top out'' it's best to use one stock and one of these. I prefer both. They do lift the front of the bike up which I find better and have more usable travel.
The rest of the kit is junk. The seals are horrible and leak quickly. The trim is cheap plastic and the boots just don't look right to me.

Might be worth trying heavy oil, in a "normal" fill quantity, or even slightly less, paired with the overly-stiff springs. Usually, we're trying to increase effective spring rate by decreasing the amount of trapped air, inside the fork legs. Oil viscosity affects damping, in both directions...compression & rebound. Slowing the rebound rate will decrease the tendency of "topping-out". The "$64 question": can this be used effectively enough to correct the problem?

Thanks guys, for all the replies.

I have used springs right now, so i did not want to buy more used springs.
And after i read OLD CT post about throwing away most of the parts and the Springs are too strong and i did not need the Gators, cause i have a K1, why buy the kit!

Also, I have never bought any thing from that Vintage Honda Minitrails guy before, maybe you guys have, I don't know.
But as for me, I will not be calling or e-mailing them for anything else.

Thanks Roy

I do like the ebay 35 dollar heavier springs. Just giving you an option if you are not a purist. If you ONLY want new oem, I will keep my eyes open. I ride on the street and can do around 65mph with my bike so a heavier spring is wanted. You never know when a pot hole will pop up. If you just look at your bike in the garage, never get it dirty and every single part needs to be stock OEM, you will not like the springs.

OLD CT makes a good point... when I specifically modded out my Z50 FrankenBike for offroad use, including hauling @$$ down rugged trails, I put heavy-duty springs and extended fork legs on the front end, and they worked like gangbusters for handling rough terrain at speed. Like night & day when compared to the tired old stock springs and shorter fork legs... seated or standing on the pegs, I had a much better overall ride. Don't know if you're gonna ride solely on the street at low speed, but today's roads are pretty cr@ppy and have their own hazards... crumbling old infrastructure with potholes galore. Moi, I liked my HD springs with extended fork legs up front and better shocks on the rear, made for a far superior ride, especially when FLYIN' LOW, LOL.

P.S. Can't remember where I bought the springs and fork legs, might be in my Projects/Builds thread, "Z50 monkeybike with a few mods..." Might have been T-Bolt, CHP, Fast 50s, or some other online dealer, been too long and too much has happened since then, aye? :cautious:

Hi, OLD CT.

I seen in another post that you commented about some RED Spray paint on a rear shock cover.

What i wanted to know is, I am working this Red CT70 K1, Frame # CT70-2010505.
My, what the parts book calls, Cover, Under Front Fork, is dented and creased.
I have two good ones, no dents, But, they are Gold in color. I was going to see if someone wanted to trade them for some Red ones, But that is going to be to much trouble. Can you tell me what brand and part number, that would look OK for this job? Even if is not Candy paint, just something that is close to original. The bike is not really a beater, nor is it show room. Just a average 5 CT70.

Thanks Roy.

I picked it up from Autozone but Advanced also has it. Duplicolor Metalcast Anodized Red MC200. There are only a few metalcast colors so red will be easy to see on the cap. Purple, blue, red and orange. You will have to use a silver metallic base first, it is somewhat transparent. Here is how they turned out.

The picture of the covers look's very nice, but my bike look's more Red.
Maybe it's just the picture that's misleading, to me it look's like the color is leaning toward the Orange side.
Is the covers you have in the picture, the Metalcast Orange ?
This is a picture of mine.

I see what you mean Roy, it's the picture. They don't look orange in person. The more coats you apply the darker the red will be, like a candy color.

This is a picture of the frame inside the house.

I never did find any New Springs, so made some spacers that go on before you put the Chrome covers on.
This will actually make the Chrome covers sit up a little higher on the Fork legs, but you can hardly notice it.
I also made some new Spring Guides out of Aluminum bar stock. They will go on the upper side of the Spring and stay put. The original, Upper Spring Guides, will now go to the lower part of the Spring. The Aluminum Guides that i made are also thicker then the Plastic ones from Honda. Between the two new parts, this should put some more preload on the assembly. If it's too stiff, i can just remove the ones under the Chrome covers.

Nice lathe work. You may be able to further dial-in the preload by stacking spacers, up to a point. Suggest you start with 15W fork oil, in place of the stock 7W. The thicker oil and carefully-set fill level can make a huge difference...for the better. I'll be interested to find out if your front end gains any annoying noises, at high engine revs, with the solid metal pieces. AFAIK, Honda used Delrin (or similar), plus rubber O-rings, for noise control. K1s are notorious for buzzing/rattling, at speed. With some bikes, it can be really loud & obnoxious.
