1969 Honda S90 loss of power

Hello,
I have a 1969 Honda S90 that I have been working on lately. I have a peculiar issue. When in 3rd or 4th gear the bike will sometimes rattle and lose all power and just start slowing down regardless of how much throttle I give it. I have cleaned the points, rebuilt the carb, and now I am at a loss. Has anyone experienced anything like this, or at least have an idea as to what it could be? Any help is appreciated. I forgot to mention that 1st and 2nd are fine regardless of the revs

Thanks,
Davis

I had this happen on the S90 I restored. No rattle, but would slow down and stop running. Turned out to be a bad rectifier which was not charging the battery. Check your lights on with the 2nd click of the ignition switch after it stops running.

I second the rectifier suggestion. Check for about 7 volts DC at the battery with the bike running and less than a half a volt AC.

Hey all,
I found out the issue was cause by one side of the points having a very small ridge, thus they weren't making proper contact at some points. Now I have created a new problem for myself. While taking off the points the spring steel piece on the new points came undone, and I don't remember the proper order of things on the bike. I have the points bracket and a bolt going through it. Can anyone give me the proper sequence of pieces? i.e. Bakelite washer, Brass washer, Spring steel, Wire, Bakelite washer, brass washer, nut. I know this probably isn't the correct order, this is just the best way I can think of to explain it.

Thanks,
Davis
