Agreed. Headlight bucket is NOT correct. It should be metal with 2 holes in the rear and be stamped HM-10S on the RH side.
Good to know they are available and not too expensive, if I decide to do a legitimate restoration someday. Right now I'm just getting the bike up and functional as a trail beater. So much was missing its days of originally are long gone. Here's a cheap one that will fit your bike.

I've currently got a 12 volt headlight that has replaceable bulbs that fits my bucket. My bucket is marked HM-11N-S on the right side.Yes, luckily honda used these steel headlight buckets on several bikes over the years, so if there isn't one listed as a "CT70", you can search for a CL, XL or SL 70 bucket. The only bad part about this headlight design is the fact they used a sealed beam design, which makes a burned out headlight bulb expensive! There is a member here who has converted a few over to accept the K0 bulbs, but it requires some surgery and sacrificing a K0 headlight bulb housing.

Yes, definitely an affordable option for someone just needing a headlight and trim ring @kirrbby. I did use one of these on a build I did for my brothers bike. It fit well and having the replaceable bulb is great. It was a custom build and I was not concerned about keeping the originality to that bike. For my other bikes, I like the look the original k1lights. That's just me though, I'm kinda a stickler for the original look and little details. In your case @nightgrider, if you find an original bucket, this might be just what you need to get a better fitting and functional headlight. These are the tickets.

This build is all about basic functionality. Not concerned with originality. Since I have everything to make this bucket work. It's what I'm going to roll with. Thanks for the confirmation and information about what is correct. May go that direction in the future. How is the wiring going ?... should be close to riding time....Back to tidying up the wire harness. About the wire nut, I just didn't feel like digging through that mess of a joint. So we'll just cover it up so it doesn't short circuit and pretend we didn't see it. Haha But making progress.
Yeah it is close to riding season. Trouble is now the grass is growing and I need to do my annual garage shuffle (mowers to the front and snowblower to the back, plus rearrange all the junk in between). LolHow is the wiring going ?... should be close to riding time....
