1980 XL80 revival

Quite a few months ago I set out to find a Honda mini to give to my father. He grew up riding z50s and ct70s. I found a xl80s in very nice condition minus the fuel tank and seat cover. I picked it up for $250 and a 8 hour round trip. I presented it to him for Christmas. He loves it. And will go well with my ct70. The z50 I had also bought, turned out to be no good. Frame had stress fractures and will be a longer term project.

This bike is CLEAN. I can’t believe how spotless it is. Chrome is perfect, painted parts are perfect. However, it had no spark. So I got points and condenser to put in.
I’m now only worried about the fuel tank, I purchased one from a 80 xl100, everyone said they fit, but they really don’t come close!

So I bought a 79 xl75 fuel tank, fingers crossed it fits! I hopefully will have some time to mess with the points this weekend. In theory I should be able to get it running. Im not sure if it requires the battery for spark. I assume it’s a separate circuit like most other Hondas.

Cool bike. Let me know if I can help.

I have a 1980 XR80 that I got running a couple years ago after a long sleep. I tried an older CDI conversion and went back to points.
It needs a top end but at least it's running now.

I picked up a '78 XR75 with a frozen engine that donated a seat and front wheel/fender.

I’ve completely forgotten about this thread. But to update you all, I managed to get it running. It took me forever to sort out a no spark condition. Turns out my battery wasn’t good enough. It now runs. And I’ve also acquired a nice xl185s to go with it. I’d post pics, but can’t figure out how.
