69 Z50 K1 Hub Finish

I need some help refinishing my front and rear hubs.

Are the non brake ( Left) sides painted with cloud silver?

Or are the hubs completely polished, and if so were the buffed to a chrome like finish?

Thank you for any help, Polson's book didn't seem to cover the topic in much depth.

Everything is a natural aluminum finish. Kinda brushed finish, then clear coated. Your hubs can be your guide...you can likely tell what parts were smooth polished. Brake drum is brushed...but the opposite end is as-cast I think.

Well the O.D. of the brake drum could be polished using a worn red scotch Brite going around the perimeter...and look great. The brake plate could be polished up as smooth as you like. Mirror finish, or just about everything less, will look great. The as-cast area will look good if you just smooth it over once with a Scotch Brite and WD-40.

Thanks for the help! I buffed the brake plates to a mirror shine, then shot them with PPG DC3000 clear. It changed the brilliance a bit which was weird, but oh well.

I seem to recall everything left of the drum was painted with a very light coat of cloud silver with no primer as was typical of Honda paint jobs. I have worked on mine over the years so its hubs are not original anymore, but I seem to remember the chain coming off and scratching it. Jeremy has some original bikes- I'd go on facebook and pm him. CT 70's hubs have a coat why would they have painted them and not the 50's?
