Anyone ride their clones on the road?

Do you have proper paperwork or do you just go and try to pass it off as a moped?

I have the papers. And mine is tagged as a cycle not a moped. And yes, I ride mine on the street all the time, riding tomorrow to work :)

Just got my "New" title from International Title Service in Las Vegas had NO problems whatsoever with them getting title paperwork. :) Got my insurance yesterday for the bike 72.00 a year. I will be going to the DMV today to get my plate and a new title from my state, Nebraska. My 74 K3 will also be classified as a motorcycle, and I will be tooling around town after today!

Here in Texas there are a couple of ways to get a title on an untitled bike, as long as there are no outstanding warrants on it, but the easiest way is to get one of the title services to do it for you. My boss wasted a week of vacation days getting a bike registered and it still cost him a couple hundred bucks. He was kicking himself afterwards. Costs about $300 up front but that gats you on the road and it's just renewals from there. Of course, you've still got to pass inspection, and display your sticker proudly. <HA>

ITS only works if the bike is 25 years+ old. The newer the bike, the more cumbersome the regs. Some late-model clone bikes are certified and you'll have no problem; pay the man and take your plate:D. If it's not certified for road use, you could be S.O.L. Between the EPA, DOT & NHTSA, an independent guy trying to meet all current 2008 model year regulations faces a situation more akin to one of those wildly improbable "Indiana Jones" escape scenes:eek:. For anyone wanting to road register their new clone bike, it pays to find out whether it's road legal before laying out cash.

My bike was not registered as a Motorcycle....they registered it as a minibike on the title and the registration. So in the eyes of Nebraska state regs. I am somewhere between a Moped and a Motorcycle. I don't care one way or another, it has a plate current tags, and all the paperwork that says it's OK to ride on the road.:red70:......

I registered mine as a moped the first time I went to the tag office. Then I got a letter saying too much braking horsepower, so I went back and the changed it to a cycle instead.

Dunno how the black & white tax collectors behave in KS, but you'll probably get less hassle with a full motorcycle registration. Motor-driven cycles are usually limited to 49cc & 35mph.:)

Just got my Trail Ryder 110 licensed in Az. Here you need either a Moped or MC license plate to ride on any street. Anything over 49cc is a motorcycle in this state. If engine size is not listed on paper work they will check, even for moped lic. MCO and invoice was all I needed to get legal. Had to pay a vehicle tax as well.
Ride mine all over town and 1 mile to work every day. Would take it to bed with me -- but the wife has drawn the line there.
