started cleaning up the front and rear hubs today,i'm using 6"and 2"buffs with tripolli and some other kind of polishing compound.very time consuming. getting in those small crevices is a bear. anyone with better ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. also, does the brake levers on the hubs get polished or painted?? thanks tom:102::102:

Polishing the nooks and krannies on the brake caps can be difficult. The brake arms are plated but, I polished mine up and they turned out nice.

I've had decent luck for the nooks and crannies with a dremel tool. It's small enought to get into the corners, and they do sell buffing wheels for them.

No doubt about it, clearcoat dulls the look of anything polished. But, that's the way they were from Honda and clearcoat really does cut down on the amount of surface maintenance required. It's your bike and your call. As for the zinc-plated items, I'd clearcoat them if there's enough zinc remaining to bring back the original appearance in the first place. Zinc, like cadmium, is a sacrificial coating. Once the oxidation is removed, exposing fresh metal, it'll oxidize quickly unless you live in an area with a dry climate.

Sounds like you used the same set up I did. Its slow but you can do it. I went the dremmel route, but had less then expected results. A dremmel is light pressure, and polishing requires pressure and heat to bring the shine up. So, I went back to the 2" wheen and just kept working it...

i tried the dremmel,it was ok. but i tried (000) steel wool and worked pretty good. now comes the final gloss buff with some special paste the local jeweler sold me..

Hey guys, sorry for bringing up and old topic but Im in the process of restoring my brake hubs and was wondering if anyone know how to remove the front speedo gear? Im talking about that little piece that protrudes out which you connect your speedo cable.

I've removed the little grub screw on the side but it doesnt seem to want to come out?

Thanks
