As the title states, can it? Does it depend on what state your in? Cause if it can, i could title it and get it registered for my b-day next year.

What are the requirements? I assume healight, tailight, and rear blinkers? Since i have a '70h model, i have everything but the latter.

Thanks guys!
P.S i live in NJ:red70:

Really depends on the state. Most limit you to 49cc (you can get a 70cc head with 49cc markings....). Often you can only have one speed for a moped. You need to check with your local licensing agency.

In Washington State, you don't need a motorcycle endorsement for a less than 50cc vehicle. My CT70 is considered a standard motorcycle, though I do have the option of going with a historic plate as it is over 30 years old.

Like I said, you need to check with your state licensing folks, both for the driver's license and the vehicle license.

In Wisconsin it has to be 50cc or under to be operated without a motorcycle liscence. It is then considered a moped and you do not need pedals on it for it to be considered that. If it has any decals on it that say
"For off road use only" I would get rid of them before taking it in to be registered. If it has the 72cc head stamped on the engine you will be screwed also. Every state has its own rules and some are much tougher than others to get them liscensed. In our state the DMV does not recognize a Bill of Sale as good enough to get a liscence either. Thats one of the main reasons you can get much more for a CT if it has a clear title and registration.

In Montana it has to pedal start to be a moped so I dont need a tag on my 1948 Whizzer/Schwinn but my 1971 CT70H and my 1957 Cushman Eagle are registered as motorcycles with vintage tags as are my 2 1973 Z1 Kawasakis {over 30 years old}. Headlites dont have to stay on unless they came that way from the factory but brake lites must work, vintage tags are a one time $10 cost.

is that the only difference between a vintage tag and a regular one? What are the other benifits of registering for a vintage tag?

In Washington, the vintage tag costs $60, which is two years normal registration, but you never have to renew it. It is good for as long as you own it.

Plus it says vintage on the plate which is kind of neat. :D

Down side is they CAN hassle you about riding it on a daily basis but they dont here. Suppose to be for weekend and parade riding. All MT motorcycle tags are a 1 time cost which wouldnt be much for 70cc's being as it goes by engine size. Even my Fatboy was only $125 forever which used to be $125 a year. Downside is my new truck was $315. Win a few, lose a few. Tags are not transferable either, new owner pays full cost

I was able to get my ct 70 titled in Wisconsin with just a bill of sale. They have a procedure you have to follow. You must call the dmv and they will then mail you a small packet with the needed info.

Did you need to put blinkers on it and with those plates can you use on street in Washington state.

Way to go Robert. Thanks for reminding me how long I have been here... 🤣 18 years later, you still need PEDALS!

In Texas, at least for my 78: If it has blinkers they have to work. They did not look that closely to see if it had a blinker switch... so my first inspection was without blinkers, and passed. It does get inspected / titled as MC not Moped if over 49cc

I inquired about a moped registration here in Michigan. The second question that they asked me..."does it have gears?"
Having changeable gears disqualified it for a moped registration.

It was good because it forced me to get my motorcycle endorsement on my driver's license.
Bad, because I have to keep my bikes insurance and license plate tags paid up and current...on three bikes right now.
