Candy ruby red

I just got my registration for my 75 Z50. Turns out it was papered since new from the original owner which is really rare around here. The bike came in very good shape, a bad paint job, but all the lights work and nothing's missing. Turns out to be a sweet deal especially that it's street legal. I'll be doing a complete resto on it this winter.

Found a set of 74 decals, which are slightly different as they have no yellow on the tank decals. Now i'm trying to source the paint code/color somewhere. From what i've read, the 75 was only available in the candy ruby red.

Here's what it looks like as I got it.

I don't have any input on the paint code but you do bring up a question .... Paper work, did these thing come with title when new?

It all depended upon whether the purchaser applied for a title, most didn't. No title application = no title + hoops for a subsequent owner to jump through, years later.

Ok, thank you. I have build many XR and CRF50's as pitracers but have never had a title to any of them. I am just now getting into the Z50's (getting ready for my first grandchild) and want them as original as I can get. Do I need paperwork or is a Bill of Sale good enough? There are a number of models I want so this might be something I need to know going into this.

I think it just depends on your state, if you don't have a title in South Carolina you are screwed they will not do anything with just a bill of sale.

Sometimes, it even varies within a state, depending upon which branch office, courthouse, etc you happen to visit.

The bike has to meet federal motor vehicle standards that were applicable at the date of manufacture. Pre `74 standards are pretty lax, after that you need turn signals & dual mirrors. Post 1980, the requirements become progressively more stringent. Post 2006 you must have the proper federal compliance documentation from the manufacturer or it's offroad forever.
