Candy Yellow Special Paint

New to the forum so excuse if this is well hashed....

I am restoring a HK1 Candy Yellow. I see the "CT70paint" banner on the forum. Is this the paint to use or is some other kind better? What? Is there someone who can actually paint the bike for me you guys use?

You might also consider powder coating in that same color or use a local auto body repair shop to paint it. Or do it yourself.

If I had my recent experience to do again, I would let the auto body place do it. But there are some stunning bikes around here that have been powder coated. Check your local phone book and ask around. There will be a place plenty close enough unless you are far away from a major city.

I would consider powder too. Ayers is good. Also check locally. There are a bunch of places sprouting up that can powder coat candy colors now.

Very nice on those two. I dropped my silver & black off at a local powder coater & he had something pretty close--closer than I thought he would--but still a bit off. I am not overly concerned if it is not exact but still decions, decisions. If I was doing blue, red, or the teal color those looked almost exact.

I have to ask. I got my Honda ct70 for free and it was panted over and I want to know if I can find a close candy yellow somewhere. My bike was that Color originally but can’t find that color.

I have no experience with either, but am sure someone here has. Marbles used to use PPG don't know what VMR uses

Ok....I know I'm excavating a REALLY old thread here, but it's a VERY common question I see alot of surrounding a rattle can paint match for CYS. One that I've been curious about myself, and wanted to experiment trying to match it. So for a control test area, I removed the side badge from a frame I have, cleaned and polished the triangle area. I didn't have any flat clean metal at home, so I dove into the recycling bin for a couple pop cans....curved surface to reflect the light at all angles...perfect! 👍🏻

After a quick coat of primer, of course rattle can red oxide was all I had. 1 coat of that, dry....then on to 2 coats of Kustom Cans Medium Silver Metallic base. Let that dry for 15min between coats. Then I moved on to the Candy Yellow from them. I applied one coat at a time, and continued to check it against the frame. The match didn't start to appear until about coat 3, but it wasn't quite there yet. I ended up at 5 coats of Candy Yellow and 1 coat of 2k rattle can clear. Obviously if this was a bike or part I would apply 2 to 3 coats of clear, but I wasn't wasting the paint on the pop cans. Regardless, I think the colour match is damn near perfect, and could fool the best of critics out there, and I'm my own biggest critic. I would not hesitate for one second painting an entire bike with this paint and method. I hope this helps someone wanting a quality match on a rattle can budget. The most expensive part is the 2k rattle can clear here, the base coats are $15 a can....CHEAP! Enjoy!

2nd pic, flash on, sun in same position

"JHminitrails" Perfect timing!! I'm so glad to hear your good review of the Kustom Kandy Paints.
I just ordered 2 of the Ruby red kits, which are supposed to arrive today. My K0 is all blasted, and ready for paint.
It's my first attempt at painting a candy color, but, just wanted to be able to say I did it.
So glad to hear you had good luck with it, and I'm looking forward to the challenge.
I'm open to any advice or pointers if you have any, as it's probably going to be a few day's before it warms up enough here in PA.

Right on! Glad you liked my experiment. I'm sure the CRR will work out just as well for match. My advice would be to paint a test sample of some sort, I chose a coke can, but you could also paint something flat as well to see how the colour lays and shows on flat surfaces, as well as curved surfaces like the can. Then get your base coats down and just lay the candy coats down 1 at a time until you achieve the desired colour match you're satisfied with. I didn't start to see the match show up til about coat 3. 5 candy coats was the magic number. Then a quick single coat of clear. My other advice would be to make absolutely certain your parts are 100% SMOOTH and without ANY pitting or holes whatsoever. If the Candy colours pool in a puddle it will create a darker spot in the pitt because the paint will be so much thicker.

Post pics of your test samples for us to see as well. And of course pics of your bike when it's done. I hope it turns out great.

All great advice, and will be used, thanks again for the encouragement. It will be a little while before its completed, as I have a few on going projects at the same time, but hey, what's a little multi-tasking here and there right? I will post when its rolling again.

Dedicate a free schedule for "paint day". I wouldn't try doing a paint job while multi tasking or have a million distractions. Putting paint on is ALOT more fun than taking paint off that you screwed up....ask me how I know! Lol. Take your time and don't rush it.

Oh yeah, definitely will be a set day for sure. I just meant, the other things would tie me up a little before I can set that paint only day.
But I'll get there...!! Rhank again.
