Here are a few photos of my candytone red minitrail.

This particular bike I came across in west texas. Was a desert/barn find.

I purchased the bike because it was mostly intact and all there. It is missing a few basic things I need to come across.

Couple things I need:

-Rear tail light bracket and tail lamp
-original H embossed headlamp accessory ( borrowed from my blue bike)
-footpeg assembly/kick stand
- air cleaner setup
- front fork triple tree

I just dug this bike out of storage. It's been hiding for atleast 10 years covered. The motor ended up giving out after I spent a bunch of money acquire NOS parts from 69. After 10 years I realize it was the clutch that may have given out. I was not able to kick start the bike anymore. My dad was the last one to have the "last laugh" on it while it gave out. Long story short I was pist. Put it away for the 10 years it's been hiding.

Currently I am going through the right case engine side and will be needing some help for those new experts wanting to see another bike get going.

Attached is a few photos, last few are digging it out of the plastic I had it wrapped in. The first fee are the other day as I'm prepping engine and getting bike ready.

Welcome Slyclone,
Lots of resources here and a tremendously helpful community.
So you found the bike and then it sat for 10 years? or was it sitting for 10 years when you found it?
let us know some more details so we can help you troubleshoot it.

I originally owned a sapphire blue one which I still have. I wanted to restore it but the frame is cracked and may have been welded improperly. Most of the blue bike is around as it's still a roller, tanks off needs repairs has dents. Need a lot of parts for the bike but it's a whole other thing getting into the sapphire blue bike.

The candytone red bike sat for quite some time before I picked it up . I really don't know much history about the bike prior to me owning other then it fit the profile I was looking for at the time. 90% of the bike was there. And it was in a very dry climate in Texas which preserved a lot of the bike.

I ran the bike 1 or 2 times 10+ years ago after refreshing some engine components. I ppurchased all oem and nos parts. Shortly after it gave out and would not kick over. I decided to put it away. Recently figured it may be a simple fix.

So far I started un boxing stuff and have some of the engine apart. I replaced the clutch plates and ended up un doing the spring for kick starter which I probably should not have because there is mass confusion on my end on getting the shaft gear set properly with out having further issues. I am replacing the bearing, some screws that got stripped years ago which deterred me from going further. So far most of the work is complete. Unfortunately I ordered some parts and the bearing was wrong, so I am on hold untill i can install a new clutch basket cover bearing. Old one felt a little tight. So wating for that bearing. In the mean time , or before all that I screwed with the kick starter, undid c clip, took the key off the shaft and the starter un wound. What a mistake. Need a walk through on it.

Most the parts I ran through the parts cleaner and layed them out for a quick, speedy install.

You can not use regular automotive oil in these engines. It will cause the clutch to slip every time. You have to use motorcycle oil, made to be used with a wet clutch.

...scratching my head thinking from 10 years ago....

Not sure what was in it,or what went in it. Most likely had the 40+ year old oil in it to begin with. Everything has been dry stored in a climate controlled garage.

I performed all top end work on the cycle. The exhaust port on cylinder head was pitted and would not give me and compression. I bought a NOS in box cyl. Head from 69. Still have vintage box, and old head. ( just saw same head on eBay not cheap!)

I see the recommended honda oil. I will def. Pick some of that up or go look at Wal-Mart for any type of motorcycle wet clutch. I read there is a valvoline brand that is compatible. Wal mart will most likely have it and @ a decent price too.

Put a small parts list together after mocking engine up. The rest of the items I ordered will arrive today so I should be able put a little bit of time in on the project.

I did pick up some valvoline wet clutch oil and gave the bone dry case a drink.

Inspected the carb and it looks as if it's brand new. Gave the bike a little revision.

Kept kicking it over after putting oil in and it still seemed weak. Then I could hear it poping on the exhaust side. I decided to put my finger on the intake and it wasn't sucking air in. Decided to check and well..re adjust the valve timing. After that it kicked over smoother. With a little bit of help from a can of ether I gave it a quick pop and it did fire over.

I will be 're installing all the twist grip throttle items today making sure the throttle works the carburetor.

Here are the pieces that needed replacing. They are the throttle cable holder (cable threads into part) and the screw that holds it in place. This all allows the twist grip to work.

I need to figure out how to get the bike to idle and run. Can't seem to recall carb settings and what screw to dial in and how much. Bike pops and has ignition just no idle and run. I figure a little bit at a time..

I just need a few k1 z50 parts. Wating to see if anyone here has anything they would be willing to part with. Id also like to try and locate another parts bike for a new project to get on. I am looking for a 1977 or 1978 z50.

All the little springs on the inside? Is there about 4 or 6 of them that would face me on the outside ( but removed and accessed on the inside)? Or more?

Just curious.

Thanks for responding

The little springs I've never had trouble with, its the MAIN springs that loose their tension over time. Part #11

This is an old crusted up Z50 clutch. The screws the pencil is pointing at hold the plate assembly where the main springs are. The main springs are about 1/2 an inch round and about 1inch long. Its a little tricky to reassemble, but once the screws are back in, they need to be tight. I just lightly use an impact.

So since I had a old original take off carburetor from my sapphire z50, I decided to open it up and clean.

Trying to figure out how to dial the carb in correctly so I decided to just take the one apart that's sitting in a box and clean and rebuild.

I bought a gallon of berryman chem dip soaked the carb in and removed. Came out relatively clean.

The only issues with this carb is that it does not have the little screen on the intake side any more, and the fuel barb is missing to allow gas to enter carb/bowl
