when digging through my parts I noticed I have two style brake levers,, something I’ve never noticed before…Does anyone know what models had what style.. I’m not asking about the black rubber tips it’s the area that fits into the perch and one style is slightly longer..I see you can still buy both styles? See pic..any info would help..thanks.

I have never noticed that before. I am only well versed on K0-K1bikes. I would try them all in one handlebar and see if they ''all'' fit. The lever with the pen point may just sit in there better! It almost seems to me that they all are aftermarket as the OEM CT70 Honda levers, I recall have a ''brass'' insert in the bolt hole from the factory.:) Confirmed, you have a bunch of Fugazzi levers. Here is an OEM K0-K1 CT70 lever still in the bag. I doubt they cheaped out on the brass insert until at least after the K4 as that had the most bling for the buck.

Back in the day, I'm talking way back in the 70's my HK0 had the brass when I bent/changed them. I really think I know more than the whole CHP team combined. No offence.

Well maybe. The first 3 speed K0's of all versions,Z's and CT's and early Z K1's had plastic levers. No bushings and thin reliefs were the norm on them.

Within several weeks of getting mine and falling in the snow and breaking off one of the plastic ones, the dealer sold me aluminum ones. Didn't even suggest the plastics again.

Levers are the first thing damaged and it sure would be a very rare occurrence to see original levers on any normally ''kid'' ridden bike.
50 years later. Those creampuff 90's era bikes you see from time to time in the guy's office with 76 miles might actually be the originals. Lol!

Didn't some cables have a different size barrel on the end of them. Do the different levers have a different size hole the barrel fits in?

Yes they do have different size levers holes…The rear brake lever has the larger cable end hole on all the old levers I have here..

I don't know the answer to this one.
But I have a early K2 Z50 in my garage. Built...maybe mid 1970, and mostly unmolested and original. It has the one that fits into the perch...lower one in your pic. I'll try to pull one to see if it has the brass insert or not.
I'll also look at the build date.
I do think that the lower one in your pic is also the BETTER part.
If anyone ever gives you hassle about having the wrong style levers on your bike...ask them to prove it.

I have a pile of old levers...both styles...lots of styles maybe. I probably couldn't distinguish which are Honda, aftermarket, newer/older versions. I've never considered them too much other than finding a matching pair...and with or without rubber tips.

The strange thing I found is that Honda ( not aftermarket ) has made them both ways and some with no rubber tips.? I agree the ones that fit into the perch seem to me like a better part..what ever way or style there listed it states they fit all fit z50’s and ct70’s that have the perch made on the bar…maybe minibike mike knows what or why?

I think but not positive that original Honda levers for the years in question will have brass inserts, rubber tips and be coated with a thick clear plastic that turns yellowish with age. I may have some nos ones in my TL pile and I think my MR has oem ones on it. I will check when I get back for Christmas if anyone really wants me to.

You are right. I bought a set last year from a vendor and they are discontinued now. Really glad I bought a spare set now. I don't think they continued to clear the over the counter levers that Honda sold as correct replacements, years later. I remember the intake has that coating on my H. First year production K0 sport black plastic ''early ST'' then switched to aluminum down the road, with no rubber and have brass as far as I know. And would be able to be proved to any show judge. Good stuff Gary.

Here's a upside down right side that has the brass no rubber and to show it has a circle with 16 up top and 25 on the bottom of the line.
