Holy Sh** 2nd Motorcyclist killed here this weekend (Wearing too much black?)

That's two in two days.
The motorcyclist was wearing black leathers, black helmet and driving a black Harley on a newly repaved black/tar road. He was T boned by an 83 yr old driver who probably didn't see em.

I don't know about you guys but when I go out I'm wearing a Neon Green T shirt, Red helmet with a Ruby Red bike and my headlight on.
While all black looks cool and Neon Green looks dorky, I'd rather look dorky if it gives me a better chance with these distracted drivers.:16:
here's the article:
Motorcyclist killed in crash out front of police station - KTNV ABC,Channel 13,Las Vegas,Nevada,News,Weather,Sports,Entertainment,KTNV.com,Action News .:.
Be careful out there!:3:

I have never road motorcycle street bikes (other than maybe a handful of times), but I use to ride bicycle road bikes long distances, but the traffic was getting so dangerous is why I stopped. All the old country roads I use to ride here in North Texas are now city roads! You have to be very defensive while riding on the streets. And sometimes even the best defensive is not enough. And I refuse to wear neon green!

The key to this unfortunate event is the 83 yr. old driver . The majority of accidents happen with someome making a left turn in front of you . I've been riding bikes for a long time & have learned you must drive defensively . Every light you have ,turn on during the day & slow down at intersections . That an a little luck -- Maybe we will make it . :4:

I totally agree with Vrod on this one

I know many old people who have never been in an accident, but have caused dozens of them

I can't ride a bike with any blood alcohol level, but some 90 year old high on meds who needs 15 mins to get into a car can drive down the road

Be careful, move to the right side when going through an intersection to stay visible to left turning cars

12V lighting on a CT is a major improvement if riding at night

As for gear, I bought everything in black, and I regret it pretty much that day forward. Clip on LED blinkers for helmet, jacket and light piping or reflective stickers can be a cheap alternative to upgrade all black gear without replacing it

I'm with Mike! Every acceident I've had on a big bike has been from a left turn who didn't see me, then stopped in front of me, or somebody pulling out into traffic. you have to ride like it a stolen bike and your 14yrs old and shouldn't be there...

That just sux,My buddy has a custom shop here and builds custom bikes for people and his pride and joy is like a neon silver metalic pee green chopper with black flame paint built to be as bad ass and fast as a harley based rig could be. He was hit 10 years ago and lived but hes scarred up,same deal though someone just pulled out and hit him. |His bike is as loud as it can be in every way.

Agreed. I live ten miles north of the city and ride 3 miles north of that, where its nothing but open road and scenery, I would never cruise in the city.
The other thing is that the curb weight of a Harley is like 750lbs with a wheel base of 64.5 in. Could it be harder to execute evasive maneuvers?

The Honda Ct is ~ 150lbs, wheelbase 43 in*
My bike just feels a lot more controllable, and nimble. I'll still wear my neon green t shirt though!:16:

*I rebuilt my front end w/26mm shocks giving it a little longer wheelbase, a 4 inch height increase and IMO better handling,
Opinion expressed is not to denigrate Harley riders nor imply this incident was his fault.

I always wear a floresent & reflective riding vest. It's mandatory riding gear on military bases and I always wear it out in town too.

Awesome pic-post H. G. :high5:
I'm about six miles west of Nellis A.F. B. (home of the F-16 Thunderbirds) and have seen similar vests worn by military personal.
Any idea where to source the vests you posted?
I've looked around the web but cant find any as cool as those with the pouch & ID pockets...

I'd rather be "uncool" and alive, than "cool" and dead.

Thats exactly how my little brother died, 82 yr. old man turned in front of him, all he could say was "I thought I could make it" you made it 82 years and didn't have 10 seconds to spare?
Don

Had a "little old lady" pull right out in front of me Saturday. Was able to stop about 3 foot from her drivers door! Wooo, them KO brakes ain't the best but they saved my ass Saturday tho.....

Sorry to hear about what happened to your little bother powerage440. Vest, helmet, leathers, cars, motorcycles, drunk drivers, teenaged drivers and older drivers or none of the above, the American roadways are by far the most dangerous place you can be!

Well said Backinthedays.
There's a lot of ways to buy the farm, best thing we can do is be cautious but not scared.:16:

Yes, well said! You also need to factor in folks on phones and all of the other weird things they are doing while they are driving. They are under the impression that the laws are for everybody else because they are too important. If you are on or near a roadway on anything with two wheels, a lapse of concentration on our part can get us killed in the blink of an eye.
