NEVC vs Trailbuddy bars

My bars are ugly and welded, so i want to replace them.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with either sets of bars, or preferably both. The trailbuddy bars certainly look like a good deal, being $56 with controls, but i was wondering how they compare to the stock bars? I read the thread, i know you have to mod them to make them fit, but i read somewhere that the chinese bars (trailbuddy parts are mostly chinese take off stuff from what i understand) were shorter than the stock bars and me being 6 1" i was wondering if i would have any problems with them. From what i read on the site the NEVC bars are good reproductions, but in all the threads i've read, everyone SAYS their awesome, but no one has any experience with them, or the trailbuddy bars for that matter.

So if you have either, speak up about what you thought of them compared to stock.

I bought the NEVC bars awhile back for an HK0. I thought they were great. They were a little wider than the stock bars which I liked. The HK0 bars always seemed a little tight to me. Unfortunaty when I inquired about getting another set I was told they didn't think they would be getting anymore.

NEVC Bars

I had bought a pair of the NEVC bars awhile back and they was ok for a replacement but totally different than stock.I had to buy a tap and rethread the holes in the perches, they had not been threaded properly. They were recalled and had to be replaced for a welding problem.(safety issue)The dimmer switch doesn't fit in exactly the same position as it should. The contour of the handles is not correct as an original bar, they point upwards instead of horizontal. They are ok but not near as nice as going with originals.HONDA is the only way to go if you can find any.
LOL,
Dennis

The trail buddy bars will be 2in smaller that the Honda bars, as far as i know, all repo bars are smaller. i can post a photo of the bars by the old bars if you like?

that'd be great if you could post that pic. If there are no huge issue with the trailbuddy bars i might just grab those, i can always get the nevc ones later. $56 for bars and controls is a great deal.

Factory Honda bars are readily available from overseas vendors but are missing the lever perches as the US model was one of the few in the world that had the weld-on perches on both sides.

If you are building a beater I guess the chinese bars would be fine. No my cuppa...:monkey:

Awesome, could you post a link or maybe ballpark a price? Once i get it running i'll worry about the beater aspect......

NEVC sells ST70 bars. These only have the lever perch on one side. Being OEM Honda bars, the quality is what you'd expect, well-finished with decent chrome. Lacking one lever perch, they won't delight the purists. Spacing is all over the place, varying from one model year to the next and between production lots of replacement bars...even from Honda. If you're after a specific configuration, then you'll either have to get your intact originals rechromed or you're S.O.L.

Although I like the spacing of the Chinese bars better than anything else currently available, I'm not overly fond of the backswept angle of the grips and the finish quality is rough. They are, however, cheap enough to cut, bend & weld to get the desired configuration and I don't want welded-on lever perches in the first place. By the time they come back from the plater the project doesn't cost a ton more than OEM. I really miss those wide NEVC bars from the 2002 batch:( .

I've never ridden a ct70 so i just wanted to make sure that if i did indeed buy the chinese bars that they would acutally be reasonable. My current bars are alright it's just that the left one must have snapped in some huge crash, because the left lever is gone and the bar is welded where the hole is for the cables to go in. They look pretty straight, but i was hoping i could get the chinese bars and controls, because i know a throttle rebuild and a new lever for the passenger side is going to be close or more than $56.
