New owner CT-70 K0

Hi All, just want to say hello, I am a new owner of a CT-70 K0. It is in relatively good condition but will need some fixing up and a few issues resolved. I just want to make a nice reliable and period correct looking joy rider. One of the main issues is the head light is not able to be positioned correctly, it seems that it must have some incorrect aftermarket handlebars that come out to far and hit the top of the speedometer, so it forces the whole bucket to tilt way forward and point down. (I tried to post a video here to show it, but it wont let me) Also looking for advice on where to source parts, good how to books etc. Any tips are greatly appreciated. Going to retire in June, and looking forward to spending time bringing back memories of having one as a kid, and bringing this one back to life. Also is the serial number on the motor supposed to match the frame VIN exactly? because mine does not. Thanks in advance.

No, the engine number and frame number rarely ever match. If they are within 300 or so of each other, they are original.

Trail Buddy, Mikes MiniTrail and a few others have parts.

Here's a couple of shots, to give you an idea what I'm talking about...

Must be wrong aftermarket bars, they don't seem to turn up quick enough, some of the guru's should know though.

Looks like your handlebar interference issue is because of the reproduction speedometer. It seems to be much taller than the OEM speedo assembly. Or maybe someone has installed a new headlight bucket that is from another model that uses the triangular speedometer. But it definitely does not have the original K0 speedo in it. The top of the speedometer on your bike appears to be sitting above the top triple tree or handlebar holder. Which seems odd and makes me believe it's the wrong headlight bucket with a aftermarket speedo. You'll have to do some research and compare yours to a original K0 bucket.

Something looks funny about the headlight mounting ears, shouldn't they be seam welded to the forks? could the forks be from another model? Or maybe someone welded some different ears on?

The bucket is from a 12 volt clone. You need a CT70 K0 bucket and a better speedometer. That's a cheapo that's also bigger than it should be, in kmh.:poop:
I thought that about the bucket as well....and as I said above, I know its a speedo from a bigger bike....but it also appears that those handle bars (which are brand new) just aren't right, the seem to come out too far before they turn upward, causing interference with the top of the speedometer...I need to find some original measurements on these I suppose.

I think you've hit the nail on the head hambone! Good eye! This is how my original fork ears look.

The speedometer cable is the wrong one also. The K0 cable measures 25 inches. That one is almost dragging the ground. Also rubbing the engine and potentially a hazard of getting caught on the head while turning. Somone really didn't know what they were doing, cobbled it together to sell.
I have a k0 bucket and the correct cable if you are interested.

Hambone, it looks like someone grafted K1 ears on the K0 front. Good eyes.

It may be my old eyes but it doesn't seem that the top triple tree plate is resting on top of the forks??

Update, just went to look, mine is the same way.

Take into consideration the oem speedo stainless bezel is half the size in height.

Correcting the bucket and the speedo will get you where you want it. Facing forward! Bars are fine. Take the headlight out and see what kind of mess the wiring job is underneath. Should have bullet connectors like the green wire in the pic.

Thank you Sir, I plan to take it apart over the weekend...but wanted you guys to see it first, and get some direction. I'm at work now...but will get at it ASAP....I was going to order new handle bars, but they are out of stock, and maybe that was good, as I should try the other of your suggestions first....
