Love the collection and the pictures. The SL125 is a beauty. Fond memories of riding one of those in my misspent youth.
I vote no on the fairing right now.

That, is super cool!
I didn't realize you could do a pattern like that with hydro dip.
I thought it was all more like tie die effect.
Please post up your progress. I'd love to see this bike come together.
Hey Kirby I saw in another post where you said Daytona motors where Chinese motors?.. I was told an the research I found is there Japanese motors? I could be wrong and Also thought they were Chinese.... how could we find out for sure? They sure look Chinese!!! Lol

They were once made in Japan. Back when Daytona made their stuff in Japan. But apparently they now make everything in China...for quite a while now.
I really don't know too much about it...maybe someone else will chime in.
Daytona used to be like Takegawa...high end Japanese parts. Not so much now, but they're still leaning on their reputation.

Wholesale Cycle says something about...assembled at the Daytona factory...lol. They don't mention where that factory is.
...leaning on a reputation that they built before they moved to cheap Chinese parts and labor. Same as SO MANY other companies have done.
There are good and bad reports about these engines. Most are good tho. 190cc for $1400...not too shabby. I'd be gentle when you kick it over. That would be a great time to break one.

Thanks for the memory jog kirb. Robert this applies to you- That SL 125 picture I posted above was a very early one,the kickstarter splines were the same size as our 50's and 70's. I was over at a friends house and when I went to leave one of them reached over and hit the kill switch on the bars just to be funny. On the restart the shaft sheared off right at the case. Was my dad mad,it was really his bike but I don't ever remember him riding it. Even though I had had experience working on the 50's, at that time I never had on dived into one of those "big" Hondas so I pulled it out of the frame and took it into the dealer. Turned out that Honda must had alot of the same happen to others because the new replacement shaft was larger and then needed a matching kick start arm as well. So Robert if you ever pull yours down check it out- if one of your 50/70's kick starter arms fit .......

That k-1 sl125 does have the larger splines..I have a 2 sl100’s a k-0 an a k-1 also that have the larger shaft..but I have seen the small shaft in real early k-0 100’s an 125’s... think it was a real early run of them...the factory Honda parts books I have shows all the k-1 and k-2 had large shaft on the 100 and 125’s. Big mistake Honda useing the small shaft in those motors..thanks for the warning throw!!

I think you should post everything in the same thread. Keep all of the pics and info about your build in one place. This way, anyone could find the thread, and see your build start to finish.

That bike is looking pretty extraordinary IMO.

Clayton pops in from time to time. You can PM him a pic of that cool pooch! :D

Don't forget to use a light coat of the red k&n filter oil on the filter before you start it.
Just enough to get a ''uniform red'' coat of it. I like that CL too! Very sharp.

Hey old ct, don’t know why but I can’t find the reply from you when you said to replace the cooler bracket..you also mentioned the chain needed to be a certain strength for the 190 motor..do you think this chain in pic will be ok? I wanted a gold chain to comp my other gold parts...I’m not going to be doing brutal hole shots with this Chinese motor but might run it up to a higher speeds....??

P.s. I found a piece of steel tomfab cooler bracket bracket ..I’m thinking of just dubbling it up with my polished aluminum one steel one on bottom I think with them dubbled I should be ok..this piece of steel isn’t super thick but will be easier to cut an trim. It measures 90 thousands with the wrinkle paint so around 80 thousands with no paint..it a piece of metal that came with my Jeep aftermarket bumper.
