No Fire (Wiring Question)

Hello, I have just purchased a Trail 70 CT70E Model. It came as a non runner with a broken kickstart shaft. I have done the hard yards and split the cases and replaced that and did a top end job while it was apart. Also new points. The Question is there is a light green and red wire comming off the wiring harness where it comes out of the mag. I currently do not have any spark. This wire is sitting free at the moment. I am charging the battery while I do some research. Thanks for any help. Regards from Paul gtmo39@yahoo.com

Light green w/red trace is Honda's universal color coding for the neutral indicator light. You have a 4-speed harness, three speed engines have no neutral indicator lead from the tranny. For your three-speed, you'd simply leave the neutral lead in the harness unused.

Well we know what the wire is for but that doesn't answer the problem of no spark. Did you replace the condensor when you replaced the points? If not do so and make sure all the wires are soldered securely to it. Did you put in a new plug? Also check your plug wire boot and make sure it is connected securely to your plug wire. It could also be a bad coil. Loose or disconnected, corroded ignition wires? Just a few things to check.

Actually, it's not quite clear whether he has no spark or the engine just won't fire. So, I answered the only question I could with the information given and hoped that this might help him sort through things the rest of the way.

If there is no battery the bike won't fire. You can jump the two black wires in the battery connector and it will fire, but you'll blow your bulbs without running the battery.

The keyswitch could be bad causing no fire. The wiring harness could be bad causing no fire.

Give us some more information to work with and we'll help you troubleshoot.

Thanks for your help (I am the stupid one)

Thanks Guy's, After I posted the last thread, I started reading some of the old tech threads and I found out where my problem was. I had set the points to the timing mark instead of the firing mark. A stupid mistake. As soon as I changed that it had great spark. I have not started it yet, I have to weld the Exhaust up. I am using a ct90 exhaust cut down due to the fact that the other was to far gone. Again thanks for your reply's. I will be back to this site. Regards from Paul in Australia
