Not so fast there pal. The democrat's controlled congress the last few years of W's admin. That's when most of the damage was done. When there is no balance in the house and senate the problems run rampant. We need term limits to get these losers out.

Americans voted bush twice, and look what happened over those eights years

If American's are uncomfortable with what Obama is doing it's a good thing
'America' has proven 'America' is an unsustainable fairy tale that can't work

America was built on slave labor and money printing practices that lead to failure

You can't borrow trillions forever, and the black man wont pay back your debt this time

Go easy on Obama

He is stepping in after the WORST presidency in American history

and by far the one with the longest term damage to the average American taxpayer, while giving maximum benefit to the elite

Bush sr.'s 1st Iraq war was justified by obvious reasons and also was accepted by a large majority of the international community. Iraq obviously attacked Kuwait after claiming false evidence that they had every right to do so.

Germany's history taught (most) Germans that it is not only a human right, but merely a duty defending peaceful states attacked by neighbours with faked matters for selfish reasons.

Most German's understanding of WW2 is that the German regime (besides their insane belief of racial superiority) - overburdened by internal economic and social problems - nevertheless backed by powerful industries with not enough customers buying their high-tech products - found it easier to blame others for their internal political problems instead of trying to solve them. They therefore created what they thought enough false evidence supported by a huge propaganda industry to entitle them to attack innocent states to steal their industrial resources (Germany attacking Poland as an "act of defense", the start of WWII).

Although I doubt there is enough historical and emotional distance from Bush jr.'s 2nd Iraq war: does anybody see any parallels?
Of course I wouldn't go as far and call Saddam Hussein "innocent". Nevertheless it is and was quite clear that most of this war's moral "justification" was just faked. Might explain why many countries refused to take part and even more are still refusing to clean up the mess behind the US.

Germans have lost a lot during WWII. Roughly 5 million people (soldiers and civilians), which is close to 10% of the population back then. Most houses destroyed beyond repair. No industry left. Most of everything left worth anything (be it patents, inventions, machinery, money, engineers or what else) taken away for reparation claims.

Anyway, it was their own fault. They didn't deserve otherwise.

Nevertheless, it taught German society a different view to things.

Still a lot of distrust in leadership concentrated into one single person. A true belief that you don't serve your country by serving a single leader. No understanding for unconditional support to a leader after his election.
But still deep thankfulness that they were lend a chance to rebuild their country after WWII instead of being sacrificed to the Russians (basically a US merit).

I have never been to Germany although I have a couple of good friends that are originally from there...They have shown me a lot of photos...their families pretty much lost everything in the war. Did your family suffer a lot of loss? Has everything been repaired or can you still find "ruins of the war"? I can't imagine a war where we live...I guess thats why 9-11 hit me so hard. Thanks mfro.

I have nothing against Canada, but I have never considered that country much of a participant in any conflict.

You simply do not know your Canadian facts, which is understandable but not excusable. WWI and WWII had heavy Canadian involvement and loss of life. As a member of the British Commonwealth, we were in in WWII before the US. They were called "world wars" for a reason, you know.

I can promise you that statement was not a slam against Canada...I am well aware of all of the allied forces in WW2, although you are correct in your statement that I do not know all of Canada's history. My maternal great grandfather was from Canada and fought in the big one!

What I meant was that Canada proper is rarely mentioned in any feuding going on on a global level. That is not a bad thing, if we could all talk, show compassion and understanding, apologize and accept others apologies it would be a much better world. Unfortunately, some people can't do that...They think it is better to be right than happy or think that it is a sign of weakness to apologize or accept an apology.

On that note, I am sorry for any offense that my statement caused.

American has been an artificial superpower for 50 those 200 years

printing money out of debt with no real value

If we let America do what it has been doing, who will bailout America when the chinese wont loan them any more money

The US debt when divided per citizen is 27,500 while Canada's is 21,000 per citizen, the difference can be directly attributed to (right or wrong) money spent on the war...not that big of a difference for a country that apparently operates on smoke and mirrors Also adding to the debt, the US takes on 500,000 illegal immigrants a year...whats Canada's number

QUOTE=a_smerek;42882]
As for Canada being a leach? The majority of oil and natural gas the US uses comes from Canada

Did you know that? The middle east supplies nothing compared to Canada

Actually Canada is second to Saudi Arabia...17.5% to about 16.5%, but 85% of what Canada produces is purchased by the US, gluttonous maybe, maybe not, but it essentially allows Canada to sell there petroleum products without having to compete on the world market

QUOTE=steampick;43001]Oh yeah, Alexander Graham Bell (the half-inventor of the phone) was born in Scotland, and raised mostly in Canada and London, and died in Nova Scotia. But hey, I'm sure he was fascinated by America.

check again...Read a little closer, I said nothing about the inventor of the phone.

After close to 65 years, you won't find many traces (except meant as a monument or e.g. a gap in a historic row of houses). But it's still in people's minds.
