SL70 Motor Swap

Hi everyone,
As the title describes I'll be doing an SL70 motor swap. I am looking at the Lifan's and everything looks pretty clear however I don't have $600 to spend on a motor. More like 300. If you have a source for affordable motors please share.

I did find this one.. 125cc Motor. Has anyone used this motor? The listing does not specify dimensions. It just simply says might fit SL70's.

I'd love to hear some of your learnings from doing this motor swap. What I can expect.

Cheers

Sounds like a pretty good deal. It will bolt right up. You'll still need to get a rectifier/regulator, clutch lever and cable, a 12 volt battery, a 12 volt flasher, and enough 12 volt bulbs, including headlight. The motor may be a no name, but should be fine as long as you break it in correctly and don't abuse it. The seller is just an importer working out of a unit in some business park, so don't expect any technical help from him. But the wiring is pretty universal and not difficult to understand. Coincidently, the seller is probably just a couple of miles from my house.

SL and XL70’s are the same frame. I installed a Piranha140 in my XL70 and it does fit but here’s a warning. I had to remove the head to get it installed and put the head back on afterwards Don’t know about the motor your looking at. Just an FYI on what may happen

Thanks, I remember now, it's been a long time since we had an SL70. I built on for my son when he was about 10, he's 39 now.

thanks for all the feedback! You all rule! Now i just gotta start saving my pennies. Ive had this SL70 just sitting here with a dead motor for two years now. Time to get it back on the road. @oldguytomanybikes that's amazing this motor supplier is just near you. I wish we had places like that in my area. All the bike shops have closed up. You have to drive a few towns over to get parts and even then it's mostly ATV / Quad gear.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'll start a build thread when I get parts in.

There's a overwhelming supply of importers of all kinds of stuff within 10 miles of my house, mostly in Chino and Ontario. Not many let you do a will call or a visit. But when you receive something, you get the address and you can pay them a visit. Show them some cash, and you can get some deals. I got my two YX140's that way.

I’m a little late to the party, but I have a half dozen SL70’s that I’ve swapped to aftermarket 12v engines. I’ve found that removing the cam gear cover makes the install much smoother.

Edit: the engine you have linked works great. I’ve bought 12 of them this year and not a problem with any of them.

Oh snap! I never posted the finished project. I'm pretty bad at these forums. Bikes a blast. I've taken it camping a few times. The high pipe is melting the seat a little and my flesh if I'm not careful. 10 out of 10 would do again.

Thanks for the tips everyone.

I have a SL70 that I would like to restore, been loking around and I dont see much in the way of parts for them. I just finished my trail70 and found getting parts not to be a problem, where is a good source to find SL parts.
